Very few survivors worth having from the greenhouse. Mainly things that were overpotted and stuff I was getting impatient with. But I had quite a few nice plants wintering in the house, so it was just one of those things. In the grand scheme of things, they were only plants. All things work for the good. :-) I'm now more selective about what I keep and first and foremost, they are only plants. I can take them or leave them. I have a passion for growing plants, But I could very easily compost every one of them. No more emotional ties to "things" outside of what's really important in life. randy

Sounds like you have a similar situation as PamCrews. She's also trying to plant on a slope by the lake. I wonder what she decided to plant. There are two Sunset Hillside Landscaping books by two different authors. I've seen the one by Susan Lang and it had lots of beautiful photos and ideas in it. It made me wish I had a big hill. There is also one by Hazel White which I haven't seen. The books would help with design and how-to but as for what specific plants to plant, local advice is best. Natives are a good idea as Gldno mentioned. They're better adapted to our climate. Which direction does your slope face and how much sun does it get? I would be tempted to walk or boat around the area and see what other people have done on their slopes that face the same direction so you can see what does and doesn't work. Some of them may irrigate with automatic watering systems. I tried a couple of ground covers but they weren't very drought tolerant and had to be watered regularly in July and August - but I was planting in dappled shade under trees where there was competition from tree roots. I tried a couple times to get ajuga going and it wouldn't live even with my watering. Lamium did great for awhile and spread and then it just disappeared for some reason. Best of luck with your hill. constanceann--we had the same bathroom as yours! Our plumber always said that the American Standard yellow was his favorite color! LOL I might be able to help with your tub height dilemma. We replaced the lovely yellow tub in that bathroom (ours was enameled steel I believe), and added one to the MB. We installed Toto cast iron tubs in both (the 1525 model). Our plumber had us install the tubs on top of the first layer of our plywood subfloor. The second layer of plywood runs up to the tub's apron (and then there's mud, thinset, and tile on top of that second layer). This way the tub is slightly sunken into the floor. The tub is a normal depth tub, but the step out, over the lip/top edge, onto the floor is a shorter step, if you know what I mean. I couldn't understand why our plumber had us install the tubs that way (thought it might be an aesthetic thing, just for looks, so the tub didn't look as tall and obtrusive perhaps), but the first time I actually used the tub, the lightbulb went on--"Ah-ha, it's easier to get out of the tub" (without whacking my shins on the side/top of the tub--which clumsy me did on many occasions!). Don't want to hijack, so do a search for my finished bathrooms and you can see the lovely before pics (yellow and all!) and you might see how the new tubs look height-wise. 1. I hate Malt-O-Meal. My mom used to make it a lot for breakfast. My family still laughs at me because it got to the point that my mom would cook breakfast and I'd go out in the front yard to crack and eat hickory nuts. I haven't tried it lately, but I'd probably still hate it because it had an icky chocolate smell. 2. My brothers and I loved Kraft spaghetti that came in the green boxes. You made the sauce by stirring the seasoning packet into tomato sauce. The parmesan cheese came in a packet that you sprinkled on at the end. It always embarrassed my mom that we would say it was our favorite food. My mom was a good cook and did know how to cook from scratch. 3. One of the most requested meals around here is grilled chicken that has been marinated in Italian dressing, steamed broccoli with a little salt and butter, and potato bread made in the bread maker.
