LOOKING for: Peanut (vegan) sauce for rice noodles

Posted by sunnyco (My Page) on

I am looking for a simple, asian peanut sauce with not too much added oil and not too sweet. I did a google search and was overwhelmed and, of course, would much rather have a few tried and true ones.

Thanks!

Sunny

Heya Sunny:
I make this all the time. I mix it up in a glass measuring cup and throw it in the microwave to heat. Simple.
I use about a 1/4 cup of the Arrowhead or Tree of Life chunky PB, and about a tablespoon of tamari sauce, a few dashes of sesame oil, a "schmere" of this thai roasted red pepper paste (it's so yum), and about a 1/4 cup of water. Heat and mix. Sometimes I add a bit of asian vinegar, and a pinch of sugar. A squeeze of lime juice is really nice too.

Peanut sauce is what's used in Pad Thai. There are actually a lot of very good bottled ones in Asian markets and in many supermarkets. I use a variety of them and have found them all to be quite good.

Someone sent me a couple of them but I think I am going to try making my own becuase they both had some ingredieints I would rather not eat. I will check the next time I am at the asian grocery though. There might be more "wholesome" varieties.

thanks,

Sunny
