Anyone from Cody Wy? Can you tell me what the weather is out like there 20 miles west towards Yellowstone. I checked the weather channels but the doesn't give temps in the mountain areas.

Not from there but I have had the pleasure of going there several times. Are you driving or flying? Cold and lots of snow. You should be able to go to Yellowstones website and get their local weather, I think they have satellite so you can view what is going on in the park, weather wise. Have you tried Cody's website, I am sure they would tell you current conditions. What is taking you there? If you have time, stop in to see the silversmith on the western edge of town, north side of the street. He does some great work with Elk ivory. Have fun.

I posted this before my husband left (driving) for Cody. Our last visit there was September 1990. He called and said it was in the 40/50s and no snow. We are planning on going back there together just don't know when. We spent 8 hours at the museum and stopped at one retail store being on a time schedule we had to move on.

What other things could you suggest to see or do there? Did you fly or drive? If so can you give us some details?

I haven't read the replies yet, but will after I post my thoughts. You all know I don't decorate for Fall, including Thanksgiving. It's because I find those colors to be extremely ugly and boring ONLY inside the house. Outside they're stunning! We love Thanksgiving, but TG is the official first day of the holiday season in my family. I used to wait until Dec. 15th to put up my tree, now it's sometimes after TG. Everything turns brown right now and is so dull, why carry it into the house? Right now I've put up my winter tablecloths. They will match with Christmas decorating but can also hold their own as a winter decor. It's a sneaky way to begin. lol. Christmas is the long holiday, if we're lucky, the joy of Christmas stays with us until New Years. SO MUCH THOUGHT goes into decorating, if I waited until December to decide what I want to do this year I'd be frazzled half the month and not enjoy myself. This year's decorating won't be as over the top as last year, but I still want it cheerful and elegant at the same time. I already have my Christmas Card station set up! I wish others than myself sent out old-fashioned cards instead of just pictures, but that's another topic! lol

If you enter the western side of Yellowstone at West Yellowstone and go southward to the east gate to Cody, it will be the easiest route driving a motor home. You should be given a map at the gate that will mark the locations of the gas stations, camping, stores, etc. Be prepared to check for road delays and closures since road repairs seem to be an endless on-going project. BTW, the highway from east Yellowstone to Cody was in pristine condition with much wider lanes than years ago. There have been a great deal of road and bridge reconstruction in the past few years at that entrance due to past fires and avalanches. The beauty through there will take your breath away. DSS & DIL lived in Cooke City, just outside of the NE entrance to Yellowstone for ten years so we made several trips out there to visit with them. During those trips, we made multiple visits in and out and around all of Yellowstone and the entrances. We never took our motorhome but flew into different cities and hired a rental car each time so I can't give you any guidance so far as the camping experience. I will say though that if we had camped, I'd have probably wanted to camp in one of the many campgrounds available in West Yellowstone or Gardiner and then used our car for the touring part of the park. Some of those switchbacks arounds the passes are really hairy and can be awfully scarey. (I fear I would have swooned had I been stuck on one of those swithbacks for 30 minutues while waiting during a road delay.LOL) Btw, I just assumed you would be entering at the West Yellowstone entrance instead of the NW entrance at Gardiner. The drive from Livingston, MT through the Paradise Valley to Gardiner is so beautiful and I much prefer the Gardiner area to the West Yellowstone entrance area.

I made a bad decision this year and went to Florida for a man.... didn't work out, but didn't realize the WHOLE story till my house sold. As my name suggests, I am in Oklahoma. Yes, Oklahoma. It is still affordable here. Now I had to find a new to me house, without spending much more than I had. Well, I barely pulled it off. 104,000.00! 3 bedroom, 1 bath, 1 car garage attached and all in a nicer neighborhood than where I was prior. Drawback: it took all the money I had. It isn't quite as nice as it looked. It is almost starting to look like a money pit. Good thing I can and do a lot myself. But it is paid for. That is why I came back. No way would I have been able to stay in Florida or many other states for that matter; for that amount of money, and affording food and all on my limited income. We love Wyoming. These were taken of the Bear Tooth Highway in Montana, going toward the NE entrance to Yellowstone and one of the most scenic in the US. It's pretty much an all-day trip if you ever want to do it. You can als9 drop down to Cody WY and tha5 part of the road is very scenic also. These photos were taken in July iirc. Pretty much open only in summer. And this is the 'Bear Tooth'

I have only driven there. I am not one for flying. Have been there in all seasons. It still has that small town charm even though there has been a great deal of commercialization there. There are some really unique shops there, that's what I am into. Depending on the time of year you visit, there is a beautiful lake just on the western outskirts of town, you take the main road as if you were heading to Yellowstone. It's on the south side of the street. In the summer the color of the water is almost a teal, it's quite breathtaking. The tunnel that was built through the mountain is pretty neat as well, just a little scarry when you come out. The river runs to the north of town, there is a beautiful gorge that you can see if you get out of your car. The southern end of town still holds a few really unique places to see. If the goldsmith is still in business, you'll find him at the western edge of town on the north side of the street. A couple of years ago he lost his wife and things were getting hard for him.
Then there's always Yellowstone to the west and a national park that you'll drive through going to the park. I love that country.

Thanks for the reply! Yellowstone happens to be one of our favorite parks. We traveled by car for years now we mostly fly and rent a car.

We visited Yellowstone by car in October of this year(2 mos.)ago.While we were there it snowed several inches and was really cold.We loved it though and look forward to going back again.
