From watching them grow from a graft and afterwards in Oregon, here is what I have seen. Grower comments are you need to stay on top of it when young...stake to keep it straight, candle for good shape early. Looks great if you stay on top of it at 3-4, 4-5 or 5-6ft...really opens up and has a much more spreading canopy when left alone here...could be the enviroment, dont know. I planted a 6'+ B&B from Van Meter Nursery (it is a selection from Morris Van Meter I believe) about 12 years ago..candled the first year and left it alone. Really opened up (canopy wise)about two years later..have always wondered how it did elsewhere

Echoes, those are beautiful! Isn't it wonder ful to be able to go a different direction and see somehting different each time! On Roseburg- I have a friend there. What was really nice was the hour to crater lake while we were waiting for him to get off work one time we went to visit. I'm sure everyone here agrees that we all want to spend the next 20 years driving around and seeing all the beautiful details of everyone's places! I know I could spend ages just from the pacific to the rockies!

My late DH and I spent a week at Santa Fe and Taos every year for 7 or 8 years. What did we do? We ate and shopped! LOL! We stayed at The Inn at Loretto most of the time and loved having breakfast on the patio there. And we ate dinner there several times too. Very nice! Another favorite place was La Casa Sena, just off the Plaza. Lunch in the courtyard, or a late drink or snack in the Cantina was great. The Pink Adobe was another favorite....in fact I had my birthday dinner there a couple of years. And we ate lunch there several times. We found the Coyote Cafe, "OK"....actually better than OK but not for the price. In Taos I don't think you can beat Doc Martin's in any way!.....except for price! Lots of $$ but worth it! We also ate several times at The Apple tree and loved that....but you had to be sure you reserved early! There was a place on the East side of the plaza that had dining on a second floor balcony where the people watching on the plaza was great. Good place for a beer and a bowl of chili....informal and good. And there is another place who's name escapes me...north of Santa Fe on the Opera road....think it was at Chimayo. Of course we ate lots of other places too....but those were the memorable ones where we returned to repeatedly. Enjoy!! Sounds like a great trip....and what fun to be part of the artist crowd!! Do you seal your pruning cuts. If not look for a round hole any where the rose was pruned. If you find a hole, something put there larvae in there. Even leaf cutter bees will lay larvae in cut stems.They eat their way down where they over winter. When you see a hole in spring before you prune for the season. Cut till you see no hole. Then cut the cane in half just above that and you can see the tiny black developing bee larvae. Of course there are many types of bore insects that can affect roses. Should that cane start to wilt the sooner you cut the better as if something is in their it will continue to munch it's way down. If only the flower or bud is wilting than something laid eggs in it. Take them off and discard in garbage. You would not want the eggs to develop.
