January in Hawaii

My husband and I are going to Hawaii the first week of January for our 30th anniversary.

Do we take summer clothes (pastels, shorts, etc?) or is there difference in how people dress in Hawaii whether is it summer or winter elsewhere? Will we be able to enjoy some of the beaches during January and come back with a tan, or is it a little cool for that at this time of the year?

Hey guys -- the temp in Hawaii is nominal 80 degrees all year around +/- 5 degrees!! So wera your loose summer clothing and watch out for the sun - use a tan lotion of SPF15 or higher!! Have a great time!
