How far away do you live from your new build site?
Comments (21)Happy 4th of July WWWonderwhiskers! It being the 4th of July and then seeing this old post revived reminds me of the 4th of July that passed while we were in the midst of building our house. (July 4, 2008). That summer was dry and hot and the 4th was a windy day. Since we were building out in the country, round mid-afternoon DH and I got to worrying about what might happen is someone started shooting off fireworks on or near our property. All that wood and sawdust in our less-than-half-completed new home and nobody to call the fire department if a fire got started! So we skipped out of the barbeque we HAD been planning to go to, dug up a couple of our battery operated camp lanterns, bought a bucket of chicken and headed out to the new house with our cell phones. We spent the entire evening perched on a 4x8 sheet of plywood up in the attic (roof wasn't on yet) of our new house watching distant fireworks and looking at the stars! Finally headed back home to bed around midnight when we finally stopped seeing or hearing any fireworks. One of my better memories of the house-building process... Happy 4th everybody!...See MoreAre those reviews reliable?
Comments (5)Hi: Respectfully you might wish to look at some of these manufacturers: American Range (sealed burner) Blue Star (open burner) Capital Range (sealed burner/self cleaning option) I personally use the American Range all gas. This company is highly regarded, has excellent customer care, offers the largest oven in a 30" (I bake). However, try these websites and look at the information they offer. I purchased mine from Josh at Dvorson's after doing 2 months of careful research. AJmadison.com (IMO not worthy as a retailer but a quick way to look at brands, variety in features, and price--that can be found lower BTW) Dvorsons.com Selectappliance.com Both of the above have interesting information pertaining to relevant performance aspects of residential prosumer ranges. For sure do a search on the appliance forum for these brands as well. Hope this helps! Psient...See MoreAir/Bubble or Jet baths, how do they feel? Reliable? Opinions?
Comments (10)DH selected a HydroMassage jet and air tub as his replacement after moving from a more temperate clime where we had a hot tub. He decide to stay indoors and remodel the guest bath instead lol. He really likes being able to focus the jets on his ankle, shoulder, back, etc. The jets have more force and do much more of a massage than the air bubbles. I used the tub too after we cut and split firewood last week and it was *really* helpful to my aching back and arms. With both the jets and air on, it *is* noisy enough like a hot tub, so think about that if a quiet soak is what you're looking for. I had him look at the SaniJet based on olychick's review (love your treetop bath olychick!) but they didn't have a size that could fit in our guest bath without moving plumbing so that was a no go. This HydroMassage has a timer feature that runs the jets/air 15 minutes after you empty the tub so all the water is blown out of the lines, which made me feel good enough. The mfg is in Denver so since we're close enough, we went and examined the tubs pretty closely. He also added an optional ozonator for cleaning and a heater to keep the water hot for longer. I guess the question for you is whether the air bubbles are enough for you to "love your bath" or if you need more power with jets as you've experienced in the hot tubs you've been in. hth, cheers...See MoreWhat would we do without this site?Need proof of other TKO's.
Comments (30)Count me in as TKO as well! I have been planning for over a year now, ever since we had our offer accepted on this house. I found this site soon after and it has been so wonderful and informative--my plans have changed a zillion times with every new or interesting k;tchen I see. Besides GW, I also run through the cable guide on my tv for two weeks at a time and DVR all the HGTV shows that have to do with k;tchens--Bang for Your Buck (the great room eps too, as those often include k;tchens); Dear Genevieve; Holmes on Homes; Divine Design; Color Splash; Spice up my K;tchen---you get the picture. Don't always love or even like what I see, but I most always learn something. I also subscribe to 24 design blogs--half deal specifically with k;tchens and the rest post about them at least some of the time. My cabinet maker said I'm the most prepared client he thinks he's ever had (and that it was a good thing, not annoying--but who knows? ;->). My remod@l doesn't even start until late August, and now that I have picked everything, I'm kind of twiddling my thumbs---but I still love reading about k;tchens!...See Moredazyjune
