I'm interested in topsoil as well - midtown memphis here... anywhere close that can deliver a small truckload? I don't need tons, but more than bags at a local garden center... I want to do container gardens and flower beds and 2 small ornamental trees and one shrub size Filbert. =)

It looks good and it germinates quickly. And its a warm season grass. I am having to plant today. I've read about fescue, but it is a cool season grass and I was told now is not the time to plant that. Also when they say "cool season" grass does that mean I would be mowing my lawn every fall and winter? Don't want that. And zoysia doesn't grow from seed. Would love zoyzia sod but would be too expensive. I'm seeding a 3000 square feet front lawn. Anyone here plant zoysia from seed? I do have a few shady areas that I could plant zoysia seed, and even though I see zoysia seed in the stores I'm not sure why they sell it when I keep reading that seeding doesn't work!

Thanks for the answers. Yes, I am asking about chill hours so I can sort through fruit tree varieties. I did move from the high desert in CA where chill hours and what would fruit could vary greatly depending on altitude. I was also in a very rural area and too lazy to drive into town if I wanted something so it was easier to grow or raise our food. Anything seemed to grow if given enough rotted manure and hay and water. Here everything grows too well--I am not used to weeds--if it wasn't watered it didn't grow and everything was on timed drip irrigation systems customized almost down to the individual plant. I have a whole new world to figure out and my first step is to find the ground under the weeds! Our yard is very overgrown including weeds and grass growning over concrete walkways! I feel like I need a whip and a chair to keep the stuff (including a dead tree 30 feet tall covered in poison ivy) from overtaking me. I guess trying to plan is a bit premature yet--I still need to tame what is in the yard first and I only have a few weeks left before I start classes again. Charlotte

Wasn't that a good idea to hold Leigh's clippers hostage for porterweed cuttings???? Lani I think she is just coming by and leaving on my porch if I am not home, I don't know yet if I will be or not. But you are more than welcome to come visit my porch and take some cuttings, I can email you my address. One of my neighbors came down to my house yesterday to ask about my brugmansias I told her about our swap so she may come in the spring. I have hydrangeas you can repossess I have the little yellow pot I would like one or two but you can have the rest let me know how to get it back to you, maybe we can meet up after Leigh comes here and I can bring you some porterweed cuttings?
