Vacation Ideas....is DC too hot...what do to in the NE?

Hi folks,
We are a family of four (daughters 13/15). We are throwing around ideas....is DC just too hot to enjoy in the summer? Anyone do a northeast drive from NYC and end up at Niagra Falls/Canada area by Niagra Falls?

We've been to Chincoteague and Lake George, both times renting a house and absolutely loving it.....we like to just relax and do an excursion (water park, river raft, site see, etc.)

So any ideas would be very much appreciate

Yes, DC can be very hot. That said, a lot of people come every summer because the museums, etc. are free. The Hudson river Valley is great. Cape Cod. West Virgina has white water rafting, so does western PA. We've been sightseeing in south eastern CT and Newport, RI
