Lynxe said what I was going to say. I lived in Hawaii back when dh was in the Navy and stationed at Pearl Harbor on Oahu. I personally don't see much reason to stop in Waikiki but if you are interested in history (both Pearl Harbor and native Hawaiian), there are some fantastic things to see on the island of Oahu. However, for a more relaxing, beach vacation, you can't go wrong with any of the others. I've been to Kauai, Maui (multiple times), the Big Island several times and Molokai. Maui is probably the most touristy out of those, but there is plenty to do there and the beaches are amazing. You can also day trip over to Molokai from there which is pretty neat. Seeing the sunrise atop Haleakala is surreal, but requires a VERY early morning wake up as it is a long drive up the switchbacks of the mountain. The road to Hana is fun if you get an early start ahead of all the tourists! The Big Island is a bit more remote but the difference in climate and landscape is amazing (dry on the Kona side, very lush on the Hilo side). Volcanoes National Park is very cool and if they still allow, driving down to where the lava has crossed the coastal road is fantastic at night. I didn't find the beaches as nice on the Big Island where the resorts are and things are definitely more secluded on the Kona side w/not as much to do compared to Maui. The Hilo side is nice to explore - lots of waterfalls, etc. I really like the Big Island, but perhaps wouldn't be my first choice for a first timer especially if you are looking for nice sandy beaches at your resort's doorstep. (Though I will say, dh, who grew up going to Maui every summer b/c his family owned a condo there, has switched allegiance to the Big Island and wants a retirement place there. Note, he has never been to Kauai though for comparison sake). Kauai is stunning and less developed (at least back then) than Maui. I spent several days there with my mom in a bed & breakfast and we had a fantastic time. We didn't do any beach vacationing there b/c my mom isn't a beachgoer. We spent a day at Waimea Canyon which is known as the Grand Canyon of the Pacific. It's quite a drive from the developed side of the island, making it a full day of driving and exploring, but worth it! We stopped all along the way at different noteworthy places too. Nice beaches, waterfalls, etc. You can definitely relax and explore on Kauai, and not have to share it with as many people as you would in Maui. Honestly, I don't think you can go wrong whatever you choose. And I'm so jealous! We were last in Hawaii (Big Island) 8 years ago when my youngest was still in my belly. She reminds us all the time how unfair it is that the entire family except for her has been to Hawaii. I try to appease her by saying she WAS there, inside my belly! LOL I think dh is in withdrawal as this is the longest he has ever gone w/o visiting Hawaii. Two of my neighbors and BIL each have condos at the Maui Westin resort and go every year, making dh so envious!

@larsi - I have not had anything happen that is equal to what you described, but my W4842 will occasionally have a "hissy fit", usually when a cycle ends. Sometimes the door will not unlock, no other symptom, so I have to fool it and start a cycle, then pause/cancel to get the door unlocked. I am too lazy to get the owners manual out and fiddle with the orange "key." !Q@#$ machine should work properly to begin with. (That's the German DNA in me. LOL) This may be a one-time glitch yours experienced. Perhaps an unnoticeable (to the naked eye) brown-out or power surge in the electrical supply caused it. These are computers that wash clothes, and I have seen what these little brown-outs and/or power surges can do to an embroidery machine.

Jillius, I made the Saturday afternoon "deadline" he wanted. I didn't think I would. But, thanks to you and everyone's incredibly generous help, WE did it! I'm thrilled with the plan! I read through the thread again just now. It is completely blowing my mind to see how the design evolved and changed over the course of a week into what we have now. Everyone played an important part with all their input. I will be forever grateful to all of you. It might take a few years to have it all up and running, but I will keep you all posted on the progress. I will start a new thread whenever he gets the walls and roof on.
