| Two impressions: Many decades ago my parents visited Bulgaria during a visit to Eastern Europe. They enjoyed themselves. But then, they liked every place they ever visited. More recently: A close friend of ours was in Sofia with two other businessmen on 9-11. He decided to go for a walk before dinner. When he returned to the hotel to pick up his key, the receptionist said, "Mr. X, you must go to your room and join your friends. You need to watch the TV." He asked why and the clerk replied, "Sir, I am so sorry, but your country is under attack." They stayed for a few more days and people were wonderful to them. Sympathetic, warm, and wanting to help in any way possible. My impression is that Eastern Europe is about the friendliest place in the world for Americans just now. |
