Denver airport question

| Has anyone rented a car at the Denver airport? Is it a pain in the butt because of the need to take a shuttle to where the rentals are (they aren't "at" the airport I heard).
I'm trying to decide whether to fly from Denver to Aspen or drive there, from the airport. Any thoughts on this too are appreciated. |

driving to aspen from denver when there is potential snow involves driving to the western slope and back tracking as the snow closes the passes. Fly into Aspen in winter.
