Off to Alaska - Need travel and packing advice

I'm planning an Alaskan cruise for July and need your opinions on what to take/pack. Also, I live in Upstate New York and wondered if we should plan to fly to Seattle and then fly to Vancouver where the ship leaves from - or drive to Toronto and take the non-stop flight to Vancouver. Thanks in advance for your help.

What ports is the curise ship entering? Bring rain gear and fall cloths...it's best to layer. It can get up into the 70's but don't count on it.

Can't help with the flights...sorry.
