We are thinking of vacationing in September or October. Our dates and even months are flexible, any advice on best time to go? We are staying five nights at the Intercontinetal Hotel in Sydney, which we know very little about as well. Our boys are older 17 and 18, and this may be the last family vaction so we do want to make it memorable. First out of country.Any advice on places to see, eat, things to do?Our plan is to rent a car (rates, best place to rent)for an additional five days and travel and explore. We will then fly out of Sydney back to San Diego. Any places we should drive to, or where to stay along the way, and cost? I am trying to save enough to make it an exciting trip. This is really a big vacation for us. I appreciate any and all help. Thank you in advance. Tammy

Ok if this is your first and last out of country experience...how much time have you got? Which coast are you leaving from? Here are some suggestions. Fly to Sydney, look around, then fly to Wellington NZ, look around. If you have time go to the SOuth Island as well, then fly to Auckland, NZ for 2 days, look around do some catamarand sailing, eat fish, etc... then fly to Papaetee, Tahiti on the way back - you gain ONE day...then fly form there after 2 days or so to LA. BYW it is along the way AND it wont cost you a lot more!!!!! (You are past the 10K mile route mileage) Now thats a memorable vacation!

Tammy, don't know that I can be of much help to you. The Intercontinental Hotel has a website that you might like to check out - it is www.sydney.interconti.com. The Hotel looks really lovely and is right in the heart of Sydney. You will be close to the Rocks (great eating places there), Darling Harbour, Circular Quay and lots of shopping. The dollar exchange rate will be great for you as well. You can now also climb the Sydney Harbour Bridge - I haven't done it and it is not all that cheap - but I think that the experience would be wonderful. I am sure that you would have to book in advance for that - maybe your travel agent could do that from there. September/October is spring here so the weather will be good - probably much the same as California. Car hire shouldn't be a problem - you could probably arrange that from the hotel. There are so many things to see and do outside of Sydney, that it is hard to pick a couple. The Blue Mountains is a lovely area - it is about 1-1/2 hours drive from Sydney - the scenery is lovely and you can ride the Scenic Railway which decends down into the valley. Anyway, I would do a lot of searching on the Internet before you come over. I did this when we travelled to the US a few years ago and it really helped a lot. I hope that you all have a wonderful time here and thoroughly enjoy yourselves. Cheryl.
