It looks like fescue but it's really hard to tell just by looking at the lawn. If you pull a plant and take a close-up picture with roots and all it would be easier to tell what it is

Thanks for the compliments Sheepco! The chubby Fuzzle thanks you as well :P That fountain thing is *so* late-60s style, straight out of Sunset magazine! We think thatÂs when they built the pond. . . So weÂre somewhat worried about the rust level on that thing, but it would be so cool to have water flowing again! IÂll take the water lettuce out right away. I didnÂt know if they could over-winter here or not, but apparently not. We have some oxygen plants (parrot feather) floating under the water. Do you know if that could stay in? Could the hornwort and anacharis stay in over winter? It doesnÂt get really cold here until late November, early December. ItÂs almost 90 degrees out today! Thanks again :) - A Hi PKPonder, I know what you mean about slow fish, as there are a few I could scoop up at any time since they always think IÂm there to feed them! But the tiny ones dart around so fast, IÂm worried about losing them in the muck. IÂve got a lot of screen-like nylon netting, so IÂll try to rig something up as you mentioned. The fishing net idea sounds good! As to the aquarium bubbler and air stones, do you have any youÂd like to recommend? Would they have to be huge? I really have no idea about these things. Just got back from beautiful Tucson Mountain/Saguaro NP area. If you haven't yet driven out of the city, you must go and see the wildflowers! Picacho Peak was stunning around March 1st. Route 86 towards Organ Pipe Cactus NM is beautiful, and so is the Park, all the parks! We also saw 20,000 sandhill cranes wintering in the Whitewater Draw, southeast of Tombstone off Davis Rd. Watching and listening to those birds fly in and out of each other in a sky dance was one of the most amazing experiences of my traveling life.

Hi, I moved to Tucson 3+ years ago from Pennsylvania. Love the climate here! I moved several Japanese maple seedlings, hoping to grow them in pots. They were doing fine until I went on vacation in the summer. Should have moved them into the house, but I figured the cats would eat them. I have some maple seeds that I will plant in the Spring, but only to keep in pots. Do I miss my east-coast plants? Oh, yes, especially the hosta! Could some of the east-coast plants survive here? Yes, but only with lots of irrigation and protection from the sun. My advice to you -- learn to love the Arizona native species. There are desert willow, screwbean mesquite, pink fairy-dusters, and endless varieties of cacti. So many plants here that I never heard of before. All of my neighbors have commented on what a nice job we did landscaping what had been a plant-less lot. All the plants are natives or desert-adapted, low-water use plants -- nothing that I would have been able to grow outside in Pennsylvania. My yard looks nothing like what I had back east. But it is gorgeous, all the same. Welcome to Arizona!
