thanks for the kind words, mydreamhome. i'm laughing at your anticipation for learning of our tub. if it were up to me i'd do a vintage cast iron tub painted pewter on the outside with a gorgeous handspray attachment and nickel faucet. but, i'm not a bath person and my husband thinks he's going to be once we move, so i let him choose the tub. he chose some sort of air jet jacuzzi that will be built in with a marble apron and hopefully some beautiful woodwork above the entrance to it to sort of set it apart from the rest of the room. to answer your question about the mirror paneling, i have no idea if we should do it everywhere. i'm terrified it will look dated or look like a fun house in there causing us headaches every time we're in the room. my mother just reminded me what a pain it will be to clean all those mirrors. haha. i'd love thoughts on where we should put the mirrors or other ideas for wall treatments. thanks.

Sunset magazine showed a home where they were used in the garden and it was fantastic. Made a small garden space look large and interesting. They were mounted to posts behind. Ivy or some bushy hedge plant covered the edges. Even with a little dirt at the lower edge from being outside, they made a huge impact. It made the cover if I remember right. I also saw some being reused in a garage. Mirrors make a small space feel more open. They bounce light in in a dark space. We had a large mirror at the end of a long entry. It used to bring in the outdoor greenery opposite our glass entry door and made all the difference. Why not try them in a place where you need more light. They reflect any light source. Any place but the ceiling. I find that creepy.

Thank you so much everyone! I am overwhelmed with everyone's support and great ideas. I think the room is beautiful but awkward because it is not square but rather rectangular and off center. It is hard to tell from the photos I suppose, but the sectional is centered with the TV above the fireplace which leaves a large open area where the book shelves and bench are located. I would have loved to move the shelving unit behind the couch but if I center it behind the couch then half of the living room sits empty? I don't think any amount of art by the windows could make it look right. The sectional was probably not the right choice of furniture for the room but it suits our family functionally. Do I love the mosaic mirror panels? Yes! Do i think they are generic? Yes. Would I prefer an art piece I love? Absolutely. I may hang them for the time being until I find something in the future. Right now, original art is out of my price range. I looked up the etsy link Wsimons85 posted, but the art in that size would be $1500. Honestly, though an abstract art piece would work well, it doesn't excite me. Maybe one day I will find something I love and by then my entire living room will look different! Home Interior with Ease, I can't believe you remember my original living room and what it looked like!! Yes, I have come a long way. I actually really like those feather pictures but I believe they are not tall enough for what I was looking for. They are 38 inches in height vs the 48 inches the current mirror panels. why do you people care if it's hard to clean or costs a lot? The OP didn't ask any of those questions. why not just answer her and forgo the snide remarks? Maybe she does have a maid and can do a 200K kitchen. (They do glass and mirror panels all the time on upper cabinets near a stove, what's the big deal w/having it done on a fridge??) Marva,,, Yes. a Custom cabinetry carpenter could design panels that fit your fridge, which would have to have the ability to accept panels. the panels wouldn't cost 30K to make! However if you wanted a custom cabinet that it is built into, expect to pay a nice amount to have that done. The mirrors would be fit into the panels much like they would on a cabinet door. Obviously to pull off this look, it can't be just a regular generic builder kitchen. The kitchen itself would have to be able to support this look. doesn't have to cost 200K either.
