Stair treads. I'd like to make some for my stairs and get rid of the old ugliest carpet you have ever seen. Any ideas. Thanks and happy new year.

We are also considering options for our carpet-worn staircase. I have seen oak replacement treads at Home Depot. The package includes the stair tread, which is a laminate and nosing, and backboard. You can purchase them with either a finished edge for an open staircase, or an unfinished edge for a staircase that is closed on both sides. The cost was around $34 per stair.

There are treads under the carpet. Take it off and see what's under there. If it's wood, you can paint it or refinish it.
