I googled horeshoe luck and found some interesting info: A horse shoe must have been worn by a horse to be lucky. It must be found not purchased. It is placed open end up in England and Ireland to hold the luck. It placed open side down in most other countries so the luck may pour out on people.. I shall place some both ways now that I have been educated.LOL

I just got these: Keen Logan Mid WP Hikers I should've heeded reviews that said they run small, as they certainly do. I ordered my regular size (8) which was much too tight with hiking socks (I wear a sock liner and Smartwools), so then ordered two more sizes (8.5 and 9), and the 8.5 fit best. As maggiepatty's were, mine are also very stiff. I've only worn them once (hiked just over 3 miles in them) and I know it's going to take some more breaking in before they're completely comfy but I think they'll get there. I like the quality, and I like that they're made in Portland.

Hannah - Sorry this is late and also a little off the cuff. If I were in your shoes looking for a suitable process without sinking a lot of money into this project, I would consider putting the entire pile outside and adjacent to (or piled up against) the north wall of your greenhouse. Cover it with foam board insulation so it doesn't cool off too quickly. That would get rid of the moisture problem, increase useable space inside, and likely help with the smell! Then run the garden hose through or under the wall and into the pile. I think garden hose would work fine at least for a few years. You'll need some sort of heat exchange inside. A very simple one would be one of the black tubs. A submersible pump pulls water out of the tub, through the pile and then drains back into the tub. This way you would be extracting heat but it wont be extremely cold water going into the pile (thereby hopefully reducing the chance that you could 'kill off' the composting process). I imagine theres some way you could get the thermo siphon / convection effect working but I just cant help there. I think having mechanical control of the flow is better. You could try using one of the many solar powered fountain pumps sold online. The problem with those is unless you get or build a battery charging system it will only run during the day. You'll want to make sure to minimize the amount of head pressure (height that the water needs to travel) with these pumps as they typically do not have real good pressure ratings. For tape, maybe get some that is specifically made for greenhouses: http://www.greenhousemegastore.com/product/poly-patching-tape/polyethylene-film-install-accessories I think gorilla tape makes a clear version now too... that's probably what I would try first.

I suspect toe spring is helpful for shoes with very hard soles that don't bend in terms of ease of walking. I typically buy shoes that do bend. My faves are my Lems with soles so flexible you can roll them in a ball. They also have no heel rise at all. They are as close to walking barefoot as I can get. IAC, I suspect the damage done to the foot from high heels is far worse than that from toe spring. And even the article posted says a moderate toe spring won't cause issues: "A moderate amount of toe spring, especially in athletic shoes with firm soles, arch support, and adequate cushioning, will continue to make walking both easier and more comfortable, without appreciably increasing the risk of plantar fasciitis." I also suspect that, especially as we age and lose flexibility, a lot of plantar fasciitis issues arise from pronation and lack of proper arch support. So for me, the bottom line here is to be aware of shoes that have excess toe spring especially if you are going to do a lot of walking in them.
