Note: I am completely new to garden junk and all "chemistry" around painting, appliing something to make weatherproof, glueing.

Just some info about how I make the teacup feeders. I don't use them as birdfeeders but use the clear glass teacups and saucers and put a tealight in them for around the patio. Look very nice at night with the candle glowing. Anyhow we use 2 part clear epoxy to glue the cup to the saucer, then glue a copper end fitting to the bottom center of the saucer. The copper pipe then fits into the end fitting and isn't glued, just a friction fit. The pipe can be removed for winter storage. If the cup and saucer needs washing I can easily remove it. We've made and sold many dozens of these. They cost less than $2 each and sold for $8. Most of the cost was for the copper pipe. Only took a few minutes to make a bunch assembly-style so it wasn't bad profit. I've heard of people selling them for $25 but I think that would have to be in a really high-end shop. The ones I have for my garden use rebar cause the price of copper went way up a couple of years ago. I have a few but haven't put them out yet - I'll try to remember to post a pic later. I'm really busy trying to get on top of this gardening so not spending a lot of time on the net.

Elina does great in this climate, too; just about as prolific a bloomer as it gets for hybrid teas. Mine in Mobile, AL a few years ago wasn't as big as the Pacific Northwest monsters, but that's not surprising. --I grew up near Seattle, so I know they have ideal climate for roses. The cool air allows for slow bloom development; therefore bigger. Wait 'til you see Medallion blooms there. I've seen them 8 inches across! I console myself with the fact that here we get several more flushes per year in a much longer growing season. If Appalachian has them in stock, I'd get one there. Moore's also sells it own-root. Don't know for a fact if it's virus-free. You can also get it from Northland Rosarium. They advertise as "virus-free," don't know if they mean UC Davis stock or not.

While it's not exactly a teacup, I had this jumbo Cheerios cup and saucer from Christmas a couple of years ago and it was sitting in my cupboard taking up space. Never knew what to do with it. So I made a birdfeeder out of it. All I did was glue the cup to the saucer with that Gorilla Glue, that stuff really sticks and then I glued an old jar lid onto my cut off broom stick and then I glued this to the bottom of the saucer. Worked like a charm and the glue really holds it together. This is the second one I've made. They're really pretty easy. For the time being, I just filled it with water, we have so many gackles around, if I was to fill it with sunflower seed they would eat a bowl a day. Ha ha.
