It's going to depend upon your doors. If you're going with your original doors, which sound like a standard overlay (means you can see the rails and stiles around your doors) you will probably have to attach that center piece to one of the doors to block the space. It'd look pretty bad, IMHO, if you just had them hanging there, not meeting. If you get new doors, full overlay, butt doors, you won't see the space. It's less expensive to buy doors than it is to buy whole new cabinets. I recently asked people who have the butt doors if they can see in the spaces. The answer was no. I am considering removing some of those center pieces myself. I dislike the constriction of access. But my evil plan is to buy some doors from the Door Stop that I really, really like. Just an off-track ramble from me. My husband grew up with a mom, dad and two sisters. He never learned to clean up after himself-that's what females are for. He never learned to clean anything. When I met him he was living in a two family house. His "apartment" was filthy-dirty with dishes, pots and pans piled in the sink, toilet had disgusting crud. I felt bad for him. One day he called me to say "I have the flu". So Little Ole Me went over there to nurse him. He slept a lot, so I spent a lot of time cleaning up the place. All the dishes got washed and put away, I vaccuumed and scrubbed everything, including the filthy toilet. I took loads of laundry over to a laundromat. One of his sisters came over a few days later and praised the great work I'd done. Wouldn't you know, within a month the whole place looked just as bad as the day I walked in. I guess he's just one of those Stone Agers who thinks women are slaves for men. In spite of that, we've been married 31 years and I still do the cleaning. He loves me, does repairs around the house and takes care of the cars, so there are a few advantages. But I blame his Mother and Sisters for allowing him to get away with being a slob.

And I thought I was the only one! After our remodel I pitched lots of old or poorly fitting clothes. Thinned out my wardrobe to essentials -- so much that I thought I could live out of my closet exclusively. (I had had shelves installed and use baskets for underwear and socks.) I tried it for a few months and didn't need the dresser at all. Free-cycled it to a neighbor's son in his first apartment. This left room for the blanket chest I had always wanted. Our son-in-law is a cabinet maker and he built it to my specifications, complete with cedar lining and soft-close hinges so our granddaughter wouldn't smash her fingers if she peeked inside. It matches a dresser our SIL built for DH. I love this arrangement and will never go back to a dresser. A bit OT -- I had a brainstorm one day that allowed me to eliminate the panties basket: I made two 14" open-ended cylinders for panties. One is black, the other ivory. About the diameter of a small tuna can. Each has a ribbon loop on the top and elastic snugs the bottom. I stuff fresh panties in the top and pull them out of the bottom as I need them. I usually wear simple black or nude panties -- these "underwear dispensers" hang from a hook inside the closet.

My3dogs, LOL!! You gave me a great laugh, and I'm on the couch sick today, so thank you! :-D He's working today, can't wait to tell him ... would you believe, he always wonders why I tell him he's such a hunk? He's so modest! :) Here, too: CL is full of chalk painter ads now. I agree about the one you posted, well said about it just looking painted, rather than transformed. I have a lot to learn, but my goal is for each piece to not just look painted. I want it to look like it was made that way first, a one-of-a-kind classic look, that hopefully won't look dated or faddish in the future.
