You were at the right place at the right time. I have my grandmothers ornaments and put them in a bird cage with a big bow... shared some with the sister and brothers, too. Wow you really hit the big time with scissors, and cords and stuff too!!! Congrats.

I collect vintage Xmas glass ornaments. I have boxes of them! My favourites are the pinecones or acorns,the birds, figurative like Santas, houses, musical instruments. I found a pile this Saturday at the SA - pinecone, bird, bells, indents, double indents, hand painted, japanese lantern style, WW2 striped balls. I love the idea of the birdcage, must try that.... I put the fancies on the tree, others are grouped by colour and heaped in bowls.
Bottle brush items are "hot" right now - wreaths, trees, candy canes. I have some of those too. I love the vintage look at Xmas.

I keep thinking about these vintage ornaments you've found.
What a treasure you've acquired!
Last Christmas my mother gave me about 8 of her old balls.
I hung them on this driftwood stick that I have suspended in my front room windows. They looked beautiful in the window. I'll take another pic when I hang them up again.

This is what it has looked like all summer. Danglers, copper pitchers, coloured glass, cobalt blue eye, Driftwood stick, cuphooks & ribbon. Do you see the little bird I glued on top??

Great score! :) I love the indented ornaments, too. By the way, I spotted some new old-fashioned (40's and 50's) ornaments at Target the other day by Kurt Adler. Even the box is a dead ringer for the vintage box. The had the striped ones, the ones with the glitter 'snow' on top and kind of dripping down, the ones with "Merry Christmas" painted on in glitter, etc. All American Hardware and Lowe's also had tree lights by Kurt Adler, the C7 bulbs with the shiny aluminum star-shaped reflectors at the base.

I remember so much of this stuff from my childhood. Might be worth a trip to Target and/or All American Hardware or Lowe's for a peek for anyone who is into the vintage look, I'm glad someone is bringing that stuff back! :)

Velvet_Sparrow: You are describing the famous Shiny-Brite ornaments from the 40s and 50s. I saw those ornaments at a store we have here called English Gardens. Gorgeous! Christopher Radko actually bought the Shiny-Brite name in the late 1990s. He makes the ornaments exactly in the original style, right down to the original packaging. The story was in Mary Engelbreit's Home Companion magazine, Dec. 2004/Jan.2005 issue. My ornaments are definitely original Shiny-Brites. I recognized some of them in the magazine. I actually found a few more at another garage sale, and I only paid 25 cents for all! There are some at a local craft mall that are selling for $3-3.50 each. Even broken ones are selling for $1-2 each. I've seen people make wreaths out of them. The reproductions have the Radko name stamped on the ornament caps.

cozycat, I love the idea of hanging a piece of driftwood over your window and hanging things from it. I especially love the way you hung your copper pitcher from it! I am a NUT for copper pots and pans and have acquired ....ahem...a few, but hadn't figured out the "right" way to display them yet. I'd been going to put a shelf over the front door and put them there but now I'm liking your hanging idea. I love it that they can hang and not just sit on a shelf. It also would allow the detailed lid of one(very ornate) to be seen.

I got three full boxes of Shiny Brites at a garage sale this summer. Paid a buck for all three boxes. These are most certainly from the 50's or 60's. The box changed after the 40's (I know because I have the boxes from my grandmother and mother's ornaments - most of the ornaments have been broken, though).

The high school friend who turned me on to junking once found six boxes of the extra large Shiny Brites from the 40's - in MINT condition (I don't think the boxes had ever been opened!). The ornaments were easily 6" to 8" across - HUGE! They were paper thin and the act of taking them out of the box and hanging them usually broke one or two! After 25 years, she only has one left. It stays in an acrylic display box - not on a tree!
