Dumpster Find!!

Went for a walk the other night and found this primitive gem sitting by the dumpster. My daughter is remodeling her home and is excited to get it to hang in her new bathroom!!

Nice find! Should clean up well, is she into shabby chic or will she repaint it? Show as a pic when she has it up! I think it will be a very cozy addition, plant of top & couple of nick-knacks in between the dowels at bottom! Jan

Nice!...Looks like somebody gave up on the poor thing. I can envision a fine piece of furniture with lots of function.

I don't dumpster dive per se, but I do "curb shop". Back years ago, when I was pregnant and broke, I saw a fold-up diaper table on the curb. I gathered my courage, went up to the door of the very nice house, knocked, and asked if I could take it. Not only did the homeowners say I could take it, but they opened up their garage and gave me a beautiful crib and boxes of baby clothes that they had been planning to take to Goodwill. I've also obtained a brand-new sofa/loveseat set, a chest of drawers, a coffee table, and bookshelves that I knock the back off of and use for raised bed garden frames! I've also gotten potted geraniums from the flower shop's dump pile - all that was wrong with them was that some bird had pooed on them. The same flower shop let me take leftover black plastic pots and a big pot full of spent bulbs. Just yesterday I saw a lovely china hutch on the curb, but I don't have room for one. A short time later I saw someone else stuffing it into their car. It was good to know someone was going to be able to enjoy it!

Okay - I went and got my camera, took a couple pictures of the desk and here is the before and after: This before picture was taken in our garage before I started working on the desk. I already took the handles off. Notice the girly colors and the gaudy colors on the side. This definitely came from a girls room - no offense to those of you who have girls. Here is the after picture. We painted it with a slate blue-gray paint and attached new brushed pewter handles. Notice that my son already put his little stereo and a few Lego pieces on top. I think we'll have to find another place for that stereo since this will be a place where we want him to do his homework. ;-) And, yes, that is camo pattern we painted on that one wall.

Greywings, I have been coveting glass lamps lately so that is a great place to see if a small change would help! Jrueter, that looks great! I will show DH for all I could find last night were white washed walls. Thanks Grandmaof3, Accents are a great idea too. I will be honest I would love to like the room with just a change of paint color and a few small accents! Nosoccermom, I love the pics you posted and the natural pine is soooo lovely. I think mine might take a bit of sanding but I can try on the smaller pieces first! I already have an eggplant hall and navy guest bedroom abutting this room:( Maybe I will change the guest to grey and use the navy here! I am going to try a few paint samples on sat. to try and find a paint color first and after that if the pine pieces still make me say meh I will than decide how to change them out. Would a blue grey work the present comforter has dark grey with silver and robins egg accents. But I was afraid that a light blue might bring even more yellow undertones out of the wood. If it were mine, I would remove the spindles and make that a lower shelf, then slip a drawer in the space above it.

How cute! I love the arched doors. Be sure and keep us posted on it's transformation. I'm with Chevy on removing the spindles. A couple of baskets to hold toiletries would be cute too. Leslie

I have a cabinet almost exactly the same! I made a drawer for the middle space and left the dowels on the bottom shelf.

Painted the whole thing a mellow creme colour and added a back. The back stablizes the whole cabinet, keeps it from racking and also keeps stuff from falling behind the cabinet.

Originally I had it hanging on the wall on the master bath but then I got the idea to add 1&1/2 inch legs and now it sits on the counter.

And please post a pic when it is done??
