Ugly, But I 'Think' I See Something

I came upon this dresser on craigslist. It's, ugh, not my taste. It's dated and has those country/70's-80's wheat waterbed embossings, just not at all something I'd normally even give a second look to.

But, for some reason, here I am. I'm wondering if the wheat couldn't be filled in with putty and sanded smooth. I'm wondering if the whole piece couldn't be crackle painted and new hardware put on.

I'm wondering if it couldn't become a newly single lady's dresser, makeup & hair fixing stand (I see hot rollers and makeup and such being easily & quickly shoved back behind those doors)

Does anyone else see this being cute with a few changes or am I just sleep deprived and desperate for a cheap project piece?

Nice piece, wish I'd found it. I need more cabinets/storage in my kitchen and this would be perfect. The wheat motif would fit in too. Wheat, bread, food,...
Personally I wouldn't try to cover the motif, I think it would stick out like a sore thumb. Crackle painting would minimize it but yet the motif would offer relief from the "crackle". A little of that goes a long way with me.
The hair salon I use has old dressers and vanities for all the work and display stations. It works well and gives a nice feel to the place.

I decided to go with another piece, though this one does have appeal in a weird way.

Hopefully someone will snatch it up .... it's a bargain at $20

Loved, I used m.g. In the blue box their bloom booster and it worked wonders. So after alot of research and thought ( ok and being nosey) I went to one of the hydro stores and bought some monkey business fertilizer to test on one brug ( npk 15-50-15) it drank it up and grew like crazy, blooms galore! It is not organic, nor cheap it cost me $49.00. The others with m.g bloom booster was good but no comparison.The downside is it chalked up the top layer of the dirt and needed flushing, and its like crack once started you have to used it or they wilt awful.Go to one of the hydro stores or order online.I will be using it on all of my brugs this year as my growing season is very short, and brugs have become my crack and I gotta have em!

The screen on the kindle in the ad has the eink screen which you can read out in the sun you do have to have light to read it in dark places since there is no back light. The fire and most other tablets use a screen much like your pc monitor which is back lit that makes it easy to use indoors and in dark, but not as good outside in bright sunlight you will have glare to some degree depending on the angle and sunlight. If you want just a basic ereader with no bells and whistles then the kindle in the ad is exactly that. I personally have never played with a nook color but it does run on Android so should be able to go online and surf and do other things besides just ereader. But as I said I have never used one. My sister has this same kindle in the ad and for her it is perfect all she wanted, plus she said many of the ads are good and she has used them. Often they are for amazon items.

Dear Huggybear, you got an unbelievable deal! Yes for those kinds of tile, you need the Lepponits wheeled nippers. You can order them online from tile companies such as Mosaic Mercantile or Maryland Mosaics, or you can get them on eBay, or you can probably get them at local stained glass stores. The wheeled nippers are great; with them you can position your wheels in the center of the tile and make a clean straight cut almost every time. (With the ones that look like pliers, you have to position them at the edge of the tile and they will crush the glass tiles like you have - use them only for thick ceramic tile like the 4x4s that are used on bathroom walls, for instance.) Again, what a fabulous deal you got on those tiles! Make wonderful things! Post pics!

I think raee put her finger on what I found "off" about it. It would pair up very well with a warm wood stained finish, its the white and the dark brown tile that is just a bit jarring to me. Having said that, romy718's photo of the white cabinets/dark backsplash does look lovely, so who can say? Choosing a backsplash is hard, I didn't realize it until we had to pick ours. We brought home several samples of tile, all which looked like they would be perfect for us in the showroom. Until we got them home, under our lighting conditions that is. Then, we found a lot of them were not even close to working for us. Finally, finally, after many trips back and forth, we found the right one. Take your time, no rush to get the backsplash done. Bring home samples, see how they look in your kitchen, with your lighting. But, when you do finally decide, get what you love and don't worry so much about what others think.

I think it would be wonderful with paint and new knobs.

I can see where it would be good as is in someone's kitchen too.

$20! I have to pay more attention to craigs list.
Real wood furniture is the best, and it sure is expensive new nowadays.

i too, was thinking it'd look great with a fun paint job and new knobs/handles.
i was also wondering if the 2 front cupboards (the boxes w/the wheat motifs on it)could be cut off.
i would definitely find something to do with that piece of furniture.
it looks solid and heavy!
