my newest window painting tried oil paints this time

well just to let you guys now, I actually got a contract with the arts council for some of my work...Im still in shock lol...anyway wanted to see how oil worked on glass...so here is my first painting...(i still need to paint the sil (what color Im stumped lol) the reflection is the flash...but I think with my next oil (if i like how it works I will add some reflective areas....

Thanks yall. KM - I love the frame too. I purchased for only $23 from a little convenience store where the owner went to Mexico to pick up his frames. Unfortunately, he died so I can't get anymore. I also tried the HD paints and the tube acrylic and they do take a little longer to dry but I haven't painted with them enough to really know what I am doing. Luvs, I know you will be painting a lot this year - can't wait to see what you will be doing. MaryLee, I posted on your Yarnell post. Punk, it is really hard to say no but I am learning. Joan, I admire you wanting to take lessons again. But it is a good idea to probably buy a palette from the teacher before you invest in the oils. I still have tubes that are 30 years old and they still work. Belle, I didn't like the drying time because I would keep going back in to tweek the painting. And I made a lot of mud but I have since learned to lay my colors next to each other and then blend. Sherry Nelson who paints flowers and birds a lot does this and it keeps you from getting so muddy. Ladies, this is the year to try new things and to try the things we loved but got away from. I think it is going to be very interesting year. I never make resolutions because I don't usually follow through but I want this year to be different. I am retired and I want to do things I love without feeling guilty - so don't come to my house without calling first or you would be surprised how badly it needs a cleaning - I will be painting in my studio and loving it - housework will have to wait. That reminds me of a little painting I did back in the 80's. it still hangs in my little studio. Thought you would like to see it (the pic is not very good, took it under regular lighting).

Excellent job Leslie. I like how you took pics all the way thru the project. Smart to put it on mdf since you seem to like to change things around pretty often. Really great detail on everything. I like the mirror especially and it looks like you got the dimensions right on with everything. Your lettering is perfect. It's a great piece. You always do a good job on everything I've seen. You shouldn't be so hard on yourself, but I understand how nice it is to get feedback on something when you aren't sure. My family looks at mine and says mmhh, yeah, it's good. None of them paint so they don't notice the details and how difficult it may have been to get the shading just right or the lettering to come out like you want it. Other painters notice those kinds of things. How did you end up hanging it? I've got a lot of big windows that I want to hang, but haven't found a safe way to do it yet. Did get some of those hurcules hooks, but haven't tried them yet. ~Anj

Roll-ups? Lay them out FLAT, pull them taut and use a roller and latex paint (parallel to the slats) or spray paint. Let it dry. If you don't load them up, they don't gum together. Move the roller string out of the way. The weaving strings will be flexible enough.

So I found out I DO have acrylic paint here and it is 13/100 gloss, so a very light sheen to it. I think I will use it. It is not labeled for trim, it's really for walls, but it's the only water based acrylic I found here and my painter says he can prep well for it and it will stick well and not peel etc.

BEAUTIFUL, GORGEOUS, FANTASTIC, AWESOME, and all the rest of the words that describe something so unique. You did an excellent job. Wow, a contract with the Arts Council, you must be so thrilled. Please explain more, what, where, how - will you paint in town hall windows?, murals in the city?

May I suggest a black frame. If you chose a Glossy Black that would give you the shine you want. And you're right, the shimmer from the camera flash makes it look like there is moonlight shining down on the mountains.

P.S. How did you do selling your painted windows at the craft fair you spoke of?

I never made the craft fair, my dad fell ill and passed away so I was busy with him....how i got the arts council contract, my hair dresser saw my work and told the arts council in mebane nc about my work...

I do sell to two different stores in nj...so far just in the stores Ive sold 7 paintings....I was surprised the first one sold for 80.00...(I sell to the store for 45.00) and now I was asked to help a woman design her bedroom in the shabby chic/ french country look...and I will be painting a mural for a contractor in the spring...so far things are looking good....oh and the other thing Im doing is adding quilts to my windows they look so cute...I hope these take off also since it takes no time to make lol

Mojo, I'm so very sorry to hear about your Dad, please know you have my deepest condolences.

Thanks for getting back to me about the Arts Council. My sis decorates her home French Country and it is so beautiful, all the roosters, floral, etc. Her primary colors are browns/dark reds/golds. In one area of her dining room she has a black baker's rack with a gorgeous display of dishes (not plates/cups) and on one of the shelves she has a book holder with a cookbook open to a desert dish. It is just so ingenious.

So, good luck to you in designing the bedroom and the mural painting. I've seen the quilts behind the glass on mirrors, so very pretty.
