What I did....

Ok here is what I did with a set of wicker furniture I bought at a church benefit sale for $5 for a loveseat and two chairs. This was really a nice wicker set at one time that just needed some TLC. What I did was painted the loveseat royal blue and the chairs americana red. Then where the "diamonds" are that is in the center of the chairs, I made a star stencil and painted one white star in the center of the diamonds. The loveseat had two diamonds on it, so I put one in each center of those diamonds as well. I have had a TON of people stop and offer me anywhere from $150 to $300 for this set. And to think I paid $5 bucks for all and only have about $10 in paint for it and still have some left for my other Americana projects. After I made this set, I was given a old card table off of Freecycle and I used the rest of the paint to paint it to match my wicker set. I painted the legs red and white and the top the blue then did 12 stars all the way around it and 1 in the middle for the 13 colonies. I have had alot of people offer good money for that as well. I never knew what a trashy set of wicker and an old table could look like with some love and time, until I made them look "new" again! Hope this gives someone else some new ideas!

that sounds great , oh yeah that americana look is the biggest seller still . and withthis newest crisis it will be even bigger, sounds great , like the star idea .
I make outdoor furn. and finally made one to sell and painted it (an adirondack chair) red whit and blue , white body, red and white back slats and blue arm, with one star in the center board, well wife sat in it and loved it we still have it, figures,
just love the look of wicker, especially at 5$ thanks Rick

Joe, I sowed my first Disco Belle seed in 1991. I grew in a 4" pot, in a south window until planting season..Ours is May 15th. I hope your plant lives, cause the flowers are fantastic..10-12"+ diameter..Huge red flowers. Is there a chance you overwatered? Toni

Yes, these were men who made the decision to do pot luck. and likely the one woman on the board who always buys something to take to a pot luck because she doesn't cook....at all! Last night another woman asked me why they didn't want us to cook....I told her that XXX just didn't want to....she said "you know I really don't think he's very smart"...LOL! The only ones for whom pot luck will be cheaper is those with 2 or 3 kids. So the way this will go is....people will bring a dish when they come to church. Church is at 10:30 but Sunday School is at 9:30 and we have 2 very active adult Sunday School classes and choir practise early. So the kitchen help (not me!!!!) will strive to keep hot dishes hot and cold ones cold for 2 1/2 to 3 hours and then put it all out on the table at noon.....which means there won't be much that I will want to risk eating but rolls and jello salad....because I know if that has been kept cold, because it won't be melted!! I exaggerate a little, but the will be several versions of corn pudding, which I won't eat when I don't know how it's been stored, greenbean casserole...yuk!...several chicken, canned soup and noodles things....which I won't eat unless I know it didn't sit out too long. But I can always eat pie! Unless it's a custard pie....and cake!!...Oh and cookies! So I won't go hungry!

I suspect everybody who has ever sewn has cut on the seam-line. The aggravation usually does a good job of reminding one to take care next time :) I don't know if it's any help, but I lay out *all* the pieces in place on dressmaker's tracing material. Some folks use flannel and if you make a 'quilting wall', flannel is great, but I started with material and just stayed with that because it's lightweight - and I already had it on hand. I taped 2 cardboard tubes (empty from gift paper) end-to-end making the tube about 7 ft long, and then taped one end of the tracing material to that; everything is rolled up when I'm not actually working on the project. I lay out the quilt to be sure the colors are balanced overall, but a side benefit is that all the pieces are in the right place... forgetting to cut mirror-images shows up right away.

We had 4 "dwarf" alberta spruces around our gazebo that were there (and 6' tall) when we moved in 11 yrs ago. Last year they were about 10ft tall and were rapidly losing needles and getting brown from the bottom up. I think they had spruce mites. Anyway, in Feb we dug them all up and I can't wait to see how the hostas I had planted in between them do this year now that they will get so much more light and space. I have a Paul's Glory that I think will return to its former glory, so I am looking forward to that, as well as adding some new additions and divisions to fill in. Found space, oh joy!!

Hi all and thanks. I thought about it but I orginally bought it to go on my porch, so I guess that is where it will stay, so I am not selling it anytime soon. I fell in love with it when I finished it so on my porch it will stay..LOL. I will try to post a pic of it so you can all see what it looks like. It was an awesome deal and I am so glad I came across it. I have a friend that comes over and everytime she tries to talk me out of it and offers me more money each time, but it is funny how much people will pay for something that if they saw the before they would turn their head and not even consider taking it for free if it was not fixed up and given a "new" life. I am going to do something next with some wooden shutters that were given to me. I will have to post some of my other crafty things I have made as well. I make quilts too and right now I seem to make a ton of "rag" quilts for family members and friends. Thanks!!
