Cool use for old CD's

Just thought of a great project that I just have to do! I was trying to think of a way to use old CD's besides making wind chimes.

All you computer junkies have old CD's around to programs that are outdated, or how about those AOL cd's that you get a thousand a year of?

Use a CD label program to make labels of your children's pictures from birth until age 18. Put the year, age, and event on each where the title and comments would go. Spray paint all the backs gold. Buy CD holders, the album type, make really nice covers for them, and title them "You Make My Heart Sing" or whatever you want to. Give them to your kids for Christmas or a birthday.

You could do one for your grandkids and make one every year to send to the parents for Christmas.

Hang them in your fruit trees to keep the birds from eating the fruit!

Love the wind chime idea. I want something to keep the birds out of my tomatoe and that may work. I am also kicking around a larger project idea! I have to build new raised garden beds next year so I just may start collecting old CDs/DVDs from friends that would otherwise end up in landfills and doing a mosaic mural on the raised bed sides!! It may end up not being anything great or it may be really pretty........we'll see!!

check the manufacturers website they may have an updated version for your current version of windows, if the one you have is an older one it likely is not compatible. there are free online ones you can use like this one Photovisi is a free and easy to use online photo collage maker. Shape Collage this one is a free version they also sell a pro version this one by arc soft was one that did come free on a lot of computers a few years back ArcSoft Collage Creator

Burned CD-R won't play in car CD player...

Sounds like maybe the darker color thing mentioned above may also play into it. My 2001 Grand Cherokee ( factory am/fm/cd/casette player) will not recognize burned CDs. i am currently using my laptop with XP and have tried windows player, I-tunes and BurnerXP but haven't noticed any different results from any of that different software. After going thru about 30 cds burning at different speeds and formats, I finally got it to occasionally recognize one I burnt at around 4X using PCM .wav (uncompressed) format but to recognize and play I usually have to fast forward it thru a couple of songs while it is doing the initial read. Once it recognizes and starts playing then will usually play the whole CD but doesn't always work for whatever reason. I may try the label thing or try to find some of the "dark" cds to see if that matters. We have a 98 KIA witn an aftermarket cd player and it will play just about anything burnt to cd no matter format or speed.

Over here (Iceland) the latest craze is to drill little holes in them and make sting art patterns on them with sewing thread. The center is left uncovered and a picture is usually glued over it. Then they are either put in a shadow box or perched on a tiny easel.

I saw a car (Art Car) covered in them the other day. It was an older type car, and they had just glued them all over it.
Looked pretty cool...especially if you have an old bomb of a car in the first place.
