Ceiling light glass shades

I am always drawn to those old ceiling glass light shades that would hang by small ball chains. In fact bought one years ago and carted from house to house but was never able to find the ceiling fixture part. Looking at the ceiling light in our latest house, one of those that holds the globe on with three screws, figured that I can put the ball chain thru the screw hole in the fixture. It's held in place by those bell shaped things that are usually found on the ends if your ceiling fan chains. Then run the chain thru the holes in the glass fixture and hold the chain in place by using those bell 'thingee's on the outside. Works perfectly. Got the ball chain and the chain ends from the home improvement store.

I too love those fixtures and have a coupleof them in the basement.

I use these on my porch hanging with the type of solar string lights that has enough lead to put solar panel in Sun and then hang the fixture with the lights in it. So cool

Check out WAC and buy the shades you like at the same time. They have plenty of fixtures which use a variety of shades. Manufacturers will frequently change the specs of a fixture or discontinue the fixture without notice. It would be much easier on you to buy the replacement shades at the same time as the fixtures.

For a matched set, you may need to replace them all. Lowes, Home Depot, etal are possible sources or perhaps a specialty lighting shop.

It's up to you. If you like them and haven't found a comparable style elsewhere, I'd keep them. You won't notice them after installation as you rarely sit and stare at the lights. If you bought them just for a low cost, then maybe look elsewhere for something of better quality.
