trying to envision what they wanted lol

okay i was given an old none working singer sewing machine to turn into something....but i have no ideas coming at me....I did see one turned into a light but have no clue how to do this anyone have any pics or ideas for anything i can do....(only the machine no cabinet)

Humm, do you have a picture? The light/lamp sounds really neat. Without seeing what you have, I wouldn't know how to suggest a way of turning it in to a light. But, I'm thinking that maybe some place on the top part there might be an existing hole where you could run your electrical hardware. You could attach the machine on a wooden base maybe?
The shop where I purchased my machine, has theirs displayed all along the walls on shelves. Looks great and is fun to see all the antiques.

Some of those old Singers are just beautiful ! I Can see it as a beautiful centerpiece in a grouping of houseplants.
-- Among the the houseplants are "sewing themed" doo dads . Buttons glued on pots , ribbons ,knitting needles - you get the idea.

I Have seen the lights made from a sewing machine - I googled all over and couldn't find a pic . sorry . If I find a pic - I'l post it.

http://www.bonsai4me.com/ try looking around this site. If your little plants are just seedlings, treat them well, and wait till next year to tinker around with the root or shoot system at all. If the seedlings have a bit of height to them, try merely bending over (carefully) the branches with a weighted string or loosely wrapped wire (that holds it shape fairly well). Bonsai prefer to get a lot of light, or be placed outside. So if your little seedlings are inside, put them in the window!

I received mine in the past few days too! They are absolutely great. In fact, one type of seed I was hunting for at HD, but they did not have it - they got rid of all their seeds by then. Others I received, I've been wanting to try. I am now collecting food containers for winter sowing. I think I will need to start late in the winter, though, Feb or March rather than now for some of the seeds. It will be hot for quite a while and the seedlings would then freeze later. Some, I will plant now and enjoy all winter for winter flowers. Thank you so much.

Lucky you! I've decorated my beach house that only exists in my head so many times... I love that brick! Of course, it looks exactly like my fireplace brick, so I might be a little partial. And I agree that the granite was way too modern for the house. I think light colored slipcovered sofas would be perfect. I'm talking about the ones where the slipcover is made for the sofa, and the cushions are separate, not under the slipcover. The generic slipcovers you buy to fit almost any sofa always looks messy. But the individually wrapped cushions and slipcovered frame would not look messy. I think. Never owned one, but would get that style. Especially at the beach where you may want to wash them more. Your floors are beautiful. I totally love dark hardwood floors, but I think it would show too much sand at the beach. Medium tone will be perfect. Like others have said, add dark wood with the furniture. Are you keeping the yellow paint? I could see a really soft tan/neutral (BM Manchester Tan maybe?) with the white woodwork. A. Yes, I can envision it :-) It is a relatively common practice on larger properties in my rather rural area. And It was something I did myself in my old garden, although on a significantly smaller scale. Here, one tends to find a percentage of conifers included in the mix as well, which may be something to consider for more year-round uniformity of appearance or privacy. Additionally, this type of mixed planting appeals to the plant geek in me as it offers the opportunity to choose and plant a lot of different stuff! And as Ken likes to point out, this type of mixed planting obviates many of the issues that may arise with a single species or monocultural planting scheme. B. This is entirely your choice. As a designer myself, I am never hesitant to suggest employing a landscape designer :-) But you seem to have a pretty clear grasp of what you want to accomplish so I am not sure whether this process is really necessary. If you are familiar with the plants you intend to be using, recognize their individual cultural requirements and suitable placement and spacing, a general, 'designed' layout is something you should be able to develop yourself. I think one of the features of this type of mixed planting scheme is the degree of randomness involved. The result should look quite natural rather than carefully planned (even though it may be). Depending on the depth of this border, I would include some natural pathways/trails through to access the areas that may need hands-on attention as the plantings establish and mature. You might find The Natural Garden by Ken Druse a helpful resource. Well illustrated with a lot of inspirational photos outlining virtually exactly what you intend. And it may also offer some plant choices you might not have considered. You can find this used on Amazon for next to nothing or maybe available at your local lending library.

Hi, I found a pic of this sewing machine lamp. At first glance, it looks like the machine is part of the table, but is a portable machine. Can't tell if the lamp is through the machine or behind it. The lamp could be attached to a board that would be a lamp base. The sewing machine could be attached or just sitting on the board. An old lamp could be used for this. A hole can be drilled into an existing hole on top of the machine. It could then be wired for a lamp. You could attach it to a base of some sort or not. Hope that helps, Linda

My eyes hurt looking at that. Its a White treadle. You can see the White Sewing Machine Co. name in the base right above the treadle. The unit is just missing it's matching dust cover. The lamp is sitting on it for some reason. You can see one of the lamp's feet under the machine. It does not look practical to have a lamp on a sewing machine as it would get in the way when using it.

Hi Bud, I think mojo girl's machine is no longer running, so guessing she won't be sewing on it much. It looks like she wants to turn it into something, maybe a boat anchor, lol. I've had a few that would have been boat anchors if I just owned a boat. Anyway, another idea I have is to find the path of least resistance on the machine and drill all the way through, top to bottom and mount it on a pole, kind of like a carousel horse. It could be set up like a carousel horse, or a lamp could be made out of it. I love sewing and sewing stuff and have lots of it. Linda
