Need suggestions for filling in perennial garden
Comments (14)I second the cosmic cosmos series as being fantastic -- some of my absolute favorite annuals all time, but they really only get about a foot high for me. I almost always use them as edging plants. In terms of two feet, I agree with the balsam impatients, which get at least 18 inches for me, with pretty double flowers all up and down their stems. Comments (5)Thanks Mandyvilla. Yes, it's full sun. The climber is pink, as is one of the tea roses, though two of the three teas don't look too healthy. The other is a pretty yellow, so I could really go any way with the colors. I would love to put in perennials, but I don't want to spend too much money, and I'm concerned the smaller perennials that I could afford won't fill in quickly enough to make a nice show when the house is on the market. Unfortunately, around me there are very few sales until much later in the season. I checked out Lowes yesterday and got a nice Butterfly bush, a fairly big Cleome, a phlox David and a daisy. But I still thought the prices were a little high. The David may stay with me. I realized I have more that I can give away than I thought. A Lychnis that doesn't really like it here, a bunch of Rudbeckia, some daylilies, etc. I think I'll be able to get a few zinnias or snaps, some impatiens for the shady side of the house, and maybe some calibrichoa as an edger. I think I'll be able to get it filled in. Luckily, it's a tiny lot....See Moreauto-fill and over-fill needed?
Comments (14)Quote: "Now that we've been shot-creted and getting ready to plumb is it too late to add the over-fill hole/slit above the tile? " The overflow is in the back of the skimmer. You might ask them if they can retro an overfill into your skimmer. An autofill is an absolute must in my opinion. I can't imagine having to drag a hose to the pool daily to top it off (temps are running in the 100's here and we're losing 1/2" to 3/4" of water a day to evaporation). We use the autofill just like a replacement for a hose- we turn it on when the pool needs to be filled and turn it off when it's done. The nice thing is that unlike a hose we don't have to worry about checking on it to turn it off at just the right time. We also don't have to worry about unrolling and rolling up a hose! Usually I'll check the pool level when I get home from work, if it's low I turn on the valve and then turn it off later that evening. Our PB actually tried to talk us out of this 150.00 add for the reasons listed in other posts above, but man am I glad I stuck to my guns on it!...See MoreNeed answer ASAP: Sand or fill dirt to fill a LARGE hole (24X 48 ft)
Comments (8)OK it's a moot point now but for future reference and other readers... Yes the definition of clean fill in many places (statutorily in my state) is clean soil, rock, gravel, sand, brick, concrete, but with NO decomposable content such as wood and roots. If you get that when you ask for clean fill soil you are really getting 'miscellaneous crap fill'. And yes soil will settle particularly if it's not compacted when put down. Probably far more than what a few chunks of wood would lead to. Best to compact the subsoil in layers less than a foot thick. Topsoil you don't want compacted quite as much but it does need to be firmed a bit to make a solid and smooth surface that won't settle into bumps and dips....See Moredes_arc_ya_ya
