Quick followup question: Do you usually cut the whip/tongue part by slicing both of those cuts higher up (toward the tip). I think when they slide together, it seemed to be better grafts when the cut on both is 1/3rd from top. Also do you just have this lil' cut going straight downwards on both sides. (or cut it at an angle)? I wasnt sure cutting straight down into bark (towards the bottom of the branch) seems to be an easier cut. vs cutting at an angle (maybe an angel on both peices 'hooks' the peices better, i dunno, just thought Id ask. The straight cut is easier).

We had our local "garden crawl" this weekend too. It was 5 gardens which were all "do it yourself" featuring anything from flower gardens to purely veggie gardens (and some of both). Most people had "non-elaborate" (it's all DIY) gardens but most are probably not something that people would consider "saleable" gardens. That's because most of us don't want to sell! We moved here to move here (most of the people on the tour chose their homes based on the exterior space, and were gardeners before they moved in, only one wasn't and she is just starting her garden but has an awesome yard for gardening!!!). NOTHING like your tour at all. However gardening isn't the only attraction. We also "crawl" from each house after fun beverage after beverage. By 4pm so many were daydrunk they went home before our dinner plans. I focused on water, and keeping hydrated and a wonderful time with good friends.

Not very unique. It's machine-made industrial glass used to keep people from looking out or in while letting a lot of light through. Those panes, or patterned colored panes were often used as placeholders for planned stained glass windows. The congregation would periodically hold fundraisers and buy a pane of leaded glass, or if they got lucky someone would donate a window. And the smaller churches usually didn't get many stained glass windows.

It really wasn't hard but takes 2 people. I free handed the curve on paper, (mark where you want to start the curve and end the curve at the top of the center of lattice panel, then draw the curve between the 2 points.) cut out and trace it with a black indelible pen on lattice. Cut lattice with a jig saw. We 1st zip tied the edging to the straight part and then would use the heat gun back and forth in about a 3" area until the edging would get warm and be bendable at the curved parts and then zip tie it in place to cool then move up the edging a few inches and heat/zip tie etc until you get to the point at the top. We did both sides and marked the edging where it crossed so they would meet in the middle and be straight. I did cut a small angled piece of lattice that would fit in the edging at the point joint and screwed it in place on both sides to keep the point stable. Then when it is cooled we used stainless steel screws on the back that were long enough to go thru the edging/lattice and into the other side of the edging a tiny bit. We did the screws because we have done other lattice projects and with heating and cooling from weather they tend to come apart if not screwed. Use stainless or you will have rust stains. They are mounted with zip ties on PVC pipe that is slid over rebar that has been hammered into the ground. Happy arbor making!
