I am putting a mw drawer under a single wall oven. The mw will be installed in a cabinet at the same height it would be under counter. The 24" wall oven will be just above, so not too high. It's not a perfect scenario, but the alternative was to put it in the island, forcing me to lose my prep sink. Also, the oven is in addition to a 48" range, so will not be used daily. gb, sorry to hijack, but... Allison, that pantry is awesome! Love the light fixture -- I've never seen anything like it -- and the birdhouses. No wonder your DH wants to keep the doors open. (Puts the pressure on to keep it neat.) There's something about st@ples in glass jars that speaks to the gut -- very homey. gb, as you enter the k;tchen on that side of the U, what is on that arm of the U as you make your way to the pantry? Since it's inside the k;tchen and kids will be using it and there are appliances close by, I'd be afraid of the traffic getting in the way of your movements. You're trying to prepare dinner, they want a pre-dinner snack, they dart thru and open the pantry door and you have to wait or shut them up in there. It sounds like, if you have a place for it, it would be better to put it on the outside, at the tip of one of the arms.

You have some goodies there! Bowling balls to paint, mosiac, or paint on, a metal basket to make a bead dangler from, A cute little frog and basket--great!

I had a similar issue but resolved it by putting a standard size micro in a very small pantry that is located in the hallway outside my kitchen. (The pantry is actually a converted hall closet, the size of which is only 32" (w) x 24" (d) 108" (h).) Although I haven't yet finished configuring and building this pantry, I've got a temporary shelf system in there for the time being and the MW is already set-up and installed. There's no question that there are times I regret not having access to more of the shelf space in that pantry that the MW is now hogging. OTOH, I am so absolutely thrilled that it's out of sight and out of the way of my kitchen "essentials" that I have learned to live with this arrangement rather happily. It probably makes a difference that I don't use my MW every day -- although I use do use it fairly frequently. But, again, given that my kitchen space isn't all that big in the first place, I really don't find it to be a terrible inconvenience to walk 8 steps from the stove or sink area or 5 steps from the fridge to get to the MW in the pantry.
