Trash To Treasure

I've been wanting to do this for years

-- spend a whole winter making TtoT yard stuff and garden junk ( my favorite forum) and have a big sale next spring.

What's stopping me ,you ask ? Probably just my insecurities ! I live on the main street in my city - I could sell a dead skunk with just a sign ~ ~ people stop for anything ! LOL I've made a list of a bunch of original stuff I'd love to make & sell ... especially trash turned into treasure items. . My problem is , I can't figure out how to set my sale apart from Rummage Sales.

To make sure I follow through with this - I've set a goal . Near my birthday - the end of June. ( What could be a better celebration ! ) Now I HAVE TO DO IT. I have my mind made up . Do you have any suggestions on how I can make this seperate from a rummage sale ? A specific advertising

gimmick ....? Hopefully ,working during winter - by spring I should have a ton of stuff ! I'd love any advice you can give me ......... thank you all !

This may be far fetched but how about offering discounts for those that bring items you can use in your craft?
Even if they don't have them with them, you could arrange for delivery or pick up and give them a coupon?

I've seen "Y-art Sales" advertised...tell them you have HandMade Christmas gifts, and to shop early for the best deals...make a really cute sign!
I'd mention the prices (say, crafts from $5 to $50)
Love your idea, TexasFern...hmmm...my brain is humming...lol!

Vivey, it's not cheap. The fee is $300 for the online version I"m taking. But it's a good program and I'm pretty impressed with the video lessons, the handouts and the course over all. There are always activities or Labs at the end of a chapter and there is a lot of interactive discussions on line with the activities. If you can swing the charge for Online, it's well worth it.

Thanks so much for the encouraging comments! I'm really happy with how they've turned out so far. I hope you guys will provide me some assistance with the accessorizing them part, I'm much better at the building and more clueless when it comes to accessories. Kitchendetective .. this is an auto body paint. I'm going to give you all the info on the can, because I'm not sure how it's pulled up at the store. The number is 43814 Prime. The OEM code is MX704966,WT7010. It's labled Ford ( N America ) Light Green. The actual brand we bought is Omni AE (MAE ) .. which is an inexpensive auto paint, the quart only cost $24 and it did all three cabinets inside and out. Lynn, I have a 1 1/2 inch wood countertop that I'm going to recycle into this project. I just need to paint it a satin black, then I have some flat BM poly hanging around that I'll put on top for durability. I'm going to have my DH cut it to size, then router out the middle a bit, so it sits down on top of the three cabinets and provides a lip to cover just above the drawers.

For OP and anyone else who might be looking for inspiration photos of home decor.......When GW is having a slow day and I am in need of inspiration, I go to the photo hosting sites. Thanks! I'm in the Chicago area - I do have someone who has done other work for me and would do this (again pending material and his time availability)! He indicated that tile would be no problem, but the vanity would be a potential issue. Thinking I could go with something like the above 66" vanity and build out the right wall section and possibly put some decorative/recessed shelving there. Thoughts??? Unfortunately I suffer from analysis/paralysis and it takes something like this to force me into action. After 2+ years planning my kitchen, it was the breakdown of several appliances that forced me 9+ years ago to redo my kitchen. For my basement, it was my teenage daughter and husband complaining that we only had the kids here for a couple years and had to do it (and that was really short-fused to force me). Timing was perfect given the pandemic the following year. So - this may be just the right trigger to get me moving. My master bathroom and deck would be next :).

I did give out coupons once ! I was doing a craft fair .... everyone who bought something got a printed coupon in their bag -- telling the next fair I'd be at - the time & date & also telling them they'd get 20% off one item Most people just couldn't believe the great offer - alot of them came back and bought more than one thing. I love the coupon idea . It works !!

Could you get together a group of 'sellers' and have an open house for 1-2 nights where people could buy for Christmas? I've seen a sale where someone would open up their house the week of Thnksgiving/first week of December. Different sellers were set up in various rooms in the house. Only the person running the open house would sell hand crafted items. The other sellers were the home business type that sold things like AVON, Tupperware, Pampered Chef, candles, etc. There may have been a little overlap, but for the most part the sellers sold different items. Postcard invites were sent out in advance by the sellers from their list of contacts. Everyone wa invited to bring a friend. My understanding is the sellers did very well.

I would call it an artist sale. You are an artist. But leave out the dead skunk.
