Display Case from Old Windows (photo)

All I can claim from this project is the idea and I copied THAT from one I had seen! LOL DH made it for me from five old wooden windows that I had stored. He DID make additional storage underneath. I used that for storing large appliances, crock pots, etc.

Should have cleaned the kitchen table off first, before I made the photo, but hey, you guys understand, I betcha! LOL

What a great display case. I love it! Never seen anything like it. DH did a great job! I just bought 8 old windows Friday at a garage sale for a $1.00 ea. Have to show DH this project. Thanks for sharing.

You're sure welcome! The one that I saw in an antique shop was sitting on something like a table top and just had legs at the bottom. We needed more storage so enclosed the bottom. The "bead board" stuff we used was the most expensive part of the whole project. DH kids me that those cheap windows cost us a fortune! LOL (We had to buy two 4X4s and he cut them in half for the legs for it.) It had to be something pretty sturdy as that sucker is HEAVY! He used 1X4s to make a frame for the bottom.

It has a glass shelf inside in between the two sets of panes.

Actually i haven't shunned any one's Advice? I'm just stating that i want to use the display case that is lighted as a way to house my plants during the winter or when they are in hibernation and need humidity ...etc...etc... to survive e. I only mentioned the cp's because those are what some of my plants are..i wasnt asking for advice for the carnivorous plants because everyone in this forum has knowledge about cacti and succulent plants which are also more then half of my plants in my collection, i was stating that i have seen people online use repurposed display cases to house plants and was asking for advice from people (if any) had any experience on how to do that and any advice on what i should do to create it in the right way. I asked people on the Carnivorous Plant forums on there advice on the CP's aspect for help, and now im asking for people in this forum for there expertise on the succulent and cacti aspect on what could be done to do to this case.

"value" is whatever someone is willing to pay ... check eBay under "tobacco memoriabilia. My dad's drugstore had one ... whole cartons went in the top and packs were in the bottom so he could pull a pack out easily. It's interesting, in a utilitarian sort of way, but unless it can be adapted for some modern use, not really attractive.

What type MR16 LED for display case

Mdod, you may be referring to my post. What wattage are the MR16s in your cabinet? The Philips 10 watt AmbientLED MR16s at Home Depot, which are rated at 435 lumens, are a fine replacement for 50 watt halogens - at least in my application. (Wall washers. I now have six of them, with two lower priority ones to go.) Their color temp is a bit 'whiter' than the halogens and they don't dim as low. Philips actually offers both warmer and cooler color temps under their EnduraLED line. But they need to be purchased from a lighting store. It is interesting to me that the AmbientLED 3000k MR16 is rated at 435 lumens, while the seemingly identical (both have the little built-in fans) EnduraLED 3000k is rated at 485 lumens. Guess they must do some 'binning', and sell the lower bin ones to Home Depot under the AmbientLED name. There are a number of other LED MR16s around. Most draw in the neighborhood of 3-4 watts, but have much lower light output (130-200 lumens). Cost wise, they are all in the $20-35 range. The above 10 watt Philips is $25.

I'm not to sure on that on apple... if they were headed like pins or T pins, they would be pins, not needles. And also, digging around. What little images there are, pin stuck needles are regular needles, not with pin heading. J/John English isn't the only company to use the term, though they are fairly exclusive on it. According so older sales info, and googling books... pin stuck does seem to refer to the sturdiness of the needle itself due to manufacturing. A needle up for pinning into fabric, or putting back into the paper case, or sticking into a pincushion... rather than the daintier or more prone to breakage sewing needles that warranted tube cases. Aside from the needle thing that's interesting of itself... those cases in the OP do appear more of a spool cabinet size and shape rather than a needle retailer... though it is possible they could be of a transitional or otherwise crossover times when J/John English also carried things like hat, crochet, and knitting needles.

5 windows? Do you mean four? Where is the fifth one---I'm curious if it is a corner cabinet or a square? I like it alot!

Nope - five - there's one on top! It's a square but just pushed up into a corner.
