Hello, I really didn't know where to put this, but it was so interesting and I wanted to share this site that I found. It looks pretty cool. Enjoy.

That looks really interesting. Its just about time to get new tires for my car, I may have to enlist hubbys help and try one of these.

Too bad I didn't see this idea earlier. My DD drove my DS's car with a very low tire. Evidently, she hit a pot hole, which damaged the side wall of the tire. There was no way to repair the tire, either. My DH left the damaged tire with Sears when he bought the new one.

Yup, perfect time to do it is after the leaves yellow. Dig some of that compost down to where the bulbs are planted and they should bulk up again. I like to replant in a new spot since it seems some plants tire out the soil and will do well moving around every few years.

I used to live about a block away from these people (see the link). They had some very functional and very beautiful planters/raised beds/containers. Another neighbor had them help him build an entire retaining wall out of tires. In my Master Gardener course they came and showed us the tire containers and I think the only thing they warned about was steel belted tires. If I remember right, they were hard to cut and had the potential of cutting back. Here is a link that might be useful: Tire Crafting

They really look nice! I've seen them out here on blvds piled 2 high & filled with flowers or greenery & they look very nice. They were just black but with flowers or green hanging down still looked great. I guess because they are so thick they probably don't heat up on inside & stuff might do better when it is really hot. I'd be very careful about getting any spray on the trunks of young trees. RoundUp CAN cause damage this way. (Ask me how I know.) There's a lot more information out there about how we've been misusing glyphosate products all these years and need to get our act together. We may have been causing problems for our trees all along. Glyphosate products often contain surfactants, too. This makes them much more problematic to thin-barked (not necessarily young) and pigmented trees. Severe bark cracking is one of the symptoms. I would always use a shield when spraying this product around trees, just to be safe.

lol I was explaining these tires to my husband and he laughed and said that his mother had one in her yard for years. He already knew exactly how to cut it and turn it inside out. I guess I had just never noticed it lol.

I have never done this but I have heard you can cut them with a jig saw on a slow speed.............it would be easier and safer than using a knife...(for me at least, I'm prone to cutting myself with knives)

I wonder if it will work with motorcycle tires? We own a mc shop and pay $1 per tire for proper disposal. Oh honey can you look at this idea...?

those have been around for years.. My paternal grandmother had one all of my life. Now my mom has one... it's funny how ideas resurface.
