I took the enamelware trays that come out of old stoves, tin tops and metal plates- drilled two holes in them, and hang them with jute (doubled or tripled).

Do they look too plain?

Thoughts???

Great room! I wish my room looked like that growing up. I really like all your ideas for storage. I have that same blue ikea piece. It is still in the box after a yr. I think I will take your idea and use it to store toys-LOL but it will be parrot toys. I wouldnt add a desk either. I think it might end up accumulating clutter.

That would also be absolutley awesome with a mirror in it hanging over a vanity in an antiquey bathroom. You know...with an old dresser holding a sink. How 'bout padding and tufting the middle, bolting it to the wall and using it for the headboard of a twin bed? Pad the middle and use it for the back to a bench stained to match with padding on the seat. Hang it on the wall as a frame for a collage of antique family photos...printed in sepia. (Oh gee...that would look great in my living room on my reddish walls!) Heck...I'd sneak it out of your garage in the middle of the night if you weren't so far away! LOL ~Sandy~

Yes! I used the wire hooks in my old kitchen, to hang cooking utensils next to the stove (they had to go on the side of a melamine cabinet). The hooks worked great and came off with no trouble when it was time. I just brought home a new batch of them yesterday to hang measuring cups and spoons on the door of my baking supplies cabinet. I saw that they have larger decorative hooks too, and I am contemplating using those to hang towels so I don't have to drill holes through the tile (whenever our tile gets installed...). Some of the big hooks are metallic, either chrome or brushed stainless or ORB-looking (some are made of actual metal too). I am thinking those might look nicer than the white plastic ones. I also probably need to retire the magnetic write-on wipe-off board that I keep on the fridge for jotting down grocery needs (the board is at least 15 years old and has ads for cattle vaccines on it). I already have some picture hanger things that I haven't used so I should probably move the grocery list to inside a cabinet door, maybe a pad with paper I can just tear off and take to the store. I saw the caddies you mentioned when I was getting the hooks at a local hardware store. The ones I saw were about the right size for sponges or scrubbies but without the vent holes at the bottom.

Rhome's reply to Studio got zapped by the backup restore. We don't have mudrooms, but I know what one is! It's the family entry, often at the back or service/utility side of the house, where wet and muddy outdoor clothes and shoes can be put off and hung to dry. Actual mud is one reason why it's generally near the laundry. Old days, small houses, it was pegs on a back porch. Current trends, it's a small room with a bench to sit for boot removal, and often cubbies and/or lockers for family members to not only hang up their coats in, but to organize backpacks and other take as you leave items. DH = Dear (or danged) Husband DW = Dear Wife The following are used with a numeral indicating birth order, or occasionally age: DS = Dear Son DD = Dear Daughter DS2 is dear second son. What a great idea for a bulletin board type thingy. Magnets, pictures, etc. would look great on them, or they look cool just plain.

Great repurposing! I love embellishing everything... a way you can do it w/taking away from the whimsy of your creation is to add magnets decorated w/jewelry, rhinestones, flowers etc.. whatever you love... You could even change them out season to season.

Man, I knew when I picked up that green metal tray at GW I should have bought it. Maybe it's still there! Love the ear clips glued onto magnets!

Very clever idea! I need memos all over my house to keep my ADD brain functioning but can't stand dull, post'em notes. Those really make me feel dumb!
I took an old cookie sheet, painted it bright red and hung on my sons door for his "Remind me to do my chores" board.
Your use of the enamelware stove trays are very classy and would go with any decor.

I love them! What a neat idea vintage look too. I just figured out what to do with all those vintage trays I bought at a garage sale for five cents each more than a decade ago.
