Kirk...I've always liked this one..my barrell pond is still going, too! But I wanted to comment on your glass balls in the ground...I think before you said those were the pot "waterers" that are sold...well, this year by our pond, I marked where I planted a big elephant ear with one of those "waterers!" (just pushed the long part in the ground) Now I know where the E.Ear is located until it finally pops out of the ground! TFS your pics again! Jeanne S.

Hi Anna, Many thanks for your reply and useful suggestions. We've had a little family pow-wow to see what we remember and looked at Google Maps! We think we got off the underground at Clarke Street Station. We then set off walking and went to a pharmacy close by with an Italian restaurant nearby. We think there was a bridge or fly-over here. We then saw some court / law buildings and headed towards the waterfront. We ended up in a little park where I seem to remember there were some small sculptures. I remember there being lots of pre-school age children here with their nannies. We then walked towards the Brooklyn Bridge beside what I think was the Brooklyn Bridge Park. We then had pizza at the famous pizza restaurant before walking back along the Brooklyn Bridge. The garden in question was in the section between the pharmacy and the park. I remember walking through what I would escribe as traditional Edwardian type town houses with small but very neat front gardens. II filled it in and built a small stream and a basin where all the water is under rock so there's no standing pond water. My upper basin is covered as well so that I don't have to worry about my dog taking a swim there either. It was a ton of work, especially digging the lower basin out. But I get lovely sound of water and frequently see the birds taking a drink. It would have been significantly more expensive if I hadn't already had all the rock from the previous pond. The liner alone was the next most expensive at several hundred dollars. I did all the labor myself. This one looks really interesting from the same site. I like how compact it is. What are you talking about a pond, a large area covered in plastic, shallow?? Any digging will destroy roots. The affect on the tree is a crap shoot, depends depends depends. Covering up the roots with plastic may or may not suffocate them. It could cut off their water supply when thinking rain, drainage etc. No one can be sure what could happen, chances are it will be slow if you don't disturb too much. It could take years to know....
