Salvaged Yard Swing

Back in May, I posted these 2 pictures asking for suggestions on what material to use to replace the canopy and cushions because of weather dry rot, on a swing my neighbor threw out.

Thanks to all who sent advice.!!!

Ok, so the swing has finally been completed, what's everyone think? I had no idea what I was doing, but I think it turned out ok. Lots better then when I got it anyway. LOL!!!

Your swing turned out very nice. I agree it looks much better now than it did before. Nice job and I hope you get to enjoy it now that it's done.

Hi Barbara--nice to see you joining in here. I would suggest that you start with the tipsy pots--so easy to make and look really good when the plants start hanging over. And it is fun when people see them and say "how did you do that?" LOL Glad you ladies had fun. Linda is a great tour guide isn't she? No, not a stripper, she has on a stylish So CA swimsuit, a bit more than a thong. Hey I have GSs that are 9, 9 1/2 and 10 1/2. Gotta be good here. Yes I will say that I paid $4 for it, thanks to Linda for giving the guy the eye to give me a good deal. I thought about using as separate pieces...table legs for a plant stand. I looked at the picture and saw one of those older types of street lamp shades, the ones that were pleated circles. That would make a great tutu. I am thinking about hypertufa quiltglo to make her a garden statue and maybe grow vines up her, lol. Hmm, wonder if either piece would make a good birdhouse, lol. I should be brave and mosaic it.

Using salvaged doors in remodel??

Fill the large voids with solid blocks of wood and glue..... Fill hinge recesses and lockset edge mortises with thin slices of edge grained wood glued in place...... Fill the face holes/defects by cutting a new (diamond) shape using a router equiped with an inlay bushing set and a template/pattern......The bushing/template WITH the spacer cuts the new opening in the door......the bushing/template WITHOUT the spacer cuts the exact matching plug in a piece of donor wood......use the table saw to slice the plug to it's required thin-ness.......Match the grain/direction and species for best results....... The resulting patch is called a dutchman.......Or as my German UncleJoe says a "Deutschman" This is fussy work.....don't expect a "contractor" to be willing to spend the time and $$$ to Re-Use the old doors.......Changing the "hand" on the door requires a change to the edge bevel also.......

Thanks everyone, I was really happy with how it turned out. And it sits great. But I think it will be quite some time before I try another one. I only have a small simple sewing machine, and while I was able to make the canopy completely with it, I had to hand sew alot for the cushions. My fingers are still not happy with me. LOL!!!
