Cheryl - those windows are "WONDERFUL." May I ask, what kind of paint are you using - enamel, Gallery Glass? I used enamel on mine and when held up to the sunlight, you can see the lines of the paint strokes, etc. Although not too bad to look at, to make it more appealing, I would paint the other side as the front. Your answers would be greatly appreciated.

I just used enamel paints, then did a clear polyurethane over the whole pane. I did get some glass gallery paints for 25 cents apiece, and am going to try them on a geometrical pattern. I thank you for the compliments, as I am having great fun doing these. I think that if you try to blend colors, you will find that you don't have the streaking and I always do 2 coats. Are the other windows on the building arch-headed or more rectangular like your new ones will be? Are the sash and muntins on the other windows in the house similarly thick as the arch-headed window you want to replace? The proposed new windows have much more delicate look (Shingle style) about them. They might look odd with other windows built with thicker sash and separations like the arch-headed window. Will you be lowering the sill height on all the indows in the room ( i.e. below the dado)? How does that look with other windows on the sides of the house? Don't forget to consider how the fenestration pattern looks from outside the building. We're in a period of (unfortunate, IMO) of window willy-nilly-ness where not as much thought about exterior looks compared to interior desires is being taken. I regularly see some pretty awkward-looking window placements (off-centerness, out-of-proportion combinations, odd combinations of vertical and horizontally-oriented windows, muntins and non-muntins mixed together, etc.) on renovations around here. In general, buildings look best when there is a distinct rhythm or pattern to their windows; if all the windows have the same general shape (vertically/horizontally); if the windows are centered over each other from story to story and if the windows on the lower floors are larger, rather than smaller, than those on the upper floors. Exceptions like dormers, oriels, accents, etc., aside, the windows should be a unifying design regulator to the overall mass of a building. Don't mess with that strong force casually just because you want an opening at a certain place on the inside. Of the technical issues, just make sure your contractor is a good flasher. Read up on the types of flashing and water shielding and where it should, and should not, be in order to have leak-free windows. Make sure you have a good drip kerf on the underside of your windowsill. Also, from personal experience, try to get windows made with few if any fingerjointed wooden pieces. I think it's worth extra money to get clear wood. Don't rely on paint to keep those joints covered and intact for the long haul. I live in a mid-19th century house, with orginal window sash and framing. My 165 year old windows, though in need of restoration - a long, tedious job that should occupy the rest of my life! - are still in slavageable condition because they were made from solid, clear, pine. Machines capable of finger-jointing scraps into serviceable lengths hadn't been invented in 1850, thank God. OTOH, neither had Grace Watershield been invented. HTH, L.

Yeah, I did that about 6 years ago - 97 windows still in my garage! Tons of fun to make stuff with windows but they are HEAVY, so that rules out most hanging on the wall projects, unless you find a stud. My latest one - sorry, digital cam is on the blink, has two panes, one up and one down. I got some decorative curly wood embelishments at Lowes and added them to the frame, then painted, aged and crackled the whole frame. On the top pane I wrote in gold lettering "French Quarter" and inside behind the bottom pane I put an old linen dresser cloth with a lace edge. The whole thing looks like an antique window from a New Orleans hotel or something washed up from Katrina. Another window thing that sold a lot was buying reproduction vintage tin signs on the internet and just gluing or nailing them right to the weatherbeaten window. My best one says "Aunt Sally's Pies" with a pix of a piece of pie. I nailed it diagonaly across the whole window frame, no new painting or refinishing. It looks like it came out of a roadhouse cafe. I could sell more, but as soon as people try to pick one up, they realize how much the darn things weigh. Also makes them a poor choice for EBay. Good luck with the greenhouse, though. Should work out well.

Thanks, Jan. :) There's actually a seventh window beyond the six that are pictured. I just don't have it in there. That wall breaks with a big doorway that enters my living room, and to the opposite side of that we put one window there just for continuity. Our front door is right there too, so when you come in, you see the first window, then the rest. It ended up looking fantastic. Then hubby put wired candle lights there on a dimmer switch for me. It's my favorite thing in the whole house. We're working on another window project down in our bar area. It's not done yet. We got that window out of a house up the street from a neighbor. It's a big picture window. Can't wait until it's done so I can share that one. I'll have to go do some more searches. I love the potting bench idea. I got this table out of my neighbor's trash that would be perfect if I attached a window to it. But it's wood, so I'd need to paint it good to protect it, or put some type of sealer on it because I have no way to keep it protected. All I have is a patio; no porch or overhang. I have a whole mess of windows from my other neighbor's house that I plan on using to make a greenhouse someday, but these windows we put in the hallway have the wavy glass and lead caming in them. These new windows we got have the wavy glass, so that's why I enjoy doing inside things with those. :) And I love the narrowness of these new ones. Reminds me of French doors in a way. Well, it's a good thing I have lots of nice neighbors willing to give me all their windows and a BIL that keeps collecitng them for me. Pretty soon I'll run out of projects to use them in! Nah.......

Hi Sandra, Good information, #2 and #5 being the most important. In addition to # 2 telling us that Cardinal is the glass company, #5 tells us that Windsor made their own IGU's, since Cardinal doesn't use superspacer. You have Cardinal Glass in your doors that was put together into an IGU by Windsor. But we don't know for sure who tempered the glass, and frankly it doesn't really matter since you need it fixed no matter who did it. The supplier needs to chat with the window company and let them know that you still have belly haze and you feel that the glass is not acceptable. Either they need to fix it to your satisfaction (it can be fixed, it's actually pretty easy to do), or replaced with acceptable glass. For a bit more background, belly haze consists of microscopic scratches that occur as the glass rides ceramic rollers in the tempering furnace. During the tempering process the glass isn't laying nice and flat, it's actually changing shape and moving quite a bit. Belly haze occurs when the glass is concave (middle down, edges up) to the rollers and the weight of the glass sheet in the center is riding the rollers. If detected, belly haze can be eliminated by adjusting the settings on the tempering line, but it can be very difficult to detect in a factory setting. Unfortunately it does show up quite well in full sunlight. I am not sure what you were seeing as cloudiness (separate from belly haze), in your original post. LoE-366 will darken your glass a bit compared with clear glass, but haze and clarity parameters for all Cardinal coatings are very good and they should never give a cloudy appearance.

I just tried it and it worked. Does it take you to another site? Or does it just click. Maybe your blocked from it. Try pressing the Ctrl button and holding it while you press the link. Hope this helps.

I can't see anything either...just a blank page and if you run arrow over it you get the outline of a boxed area. but that is all

I cant seem to see anything whenever i try to view the sight either.
I also paint on old windows, i use acylic paints, and i do alot of the primitive scenes, i also do them of animals, and the beach.

I tried it too and it's a blank page. The only thing I can think of is maybe she deleted them from Photobucket. I checked her clippings and her stepping stones are there, but not her wondows. This post was from last year. Sorry it's not working.

Hello to all. It's been a while since I have been on this page. Sorry you all had trouble finding my pictures. It looks like the spelling of my memeber name was wrong. I thank you all for the kind words about my windows. I have since done a stained glass lighthouse window complete with seagulls and a sun. I will put that on my mosaic page.

Hi CrafterCheryl, Yes I noticed that I had spelled your name wrong. I kept trying yesterday in Photobucket to find you than I realized I had your name spelled wrong. Sorry about that. (That's one of the reasons I guess I should have had my glasses on) Gonna go and see your new window. Sounds really neat.
