Well, it's been a while since this post and I lost one of my plants. But... I finally found out what it was that turned them yellow. I started looking REALLY close to the plants... examining them very carefully. I discovered, right under the fine white hairs at the base of each areole, under the smaller spines were scale insects! The little buggers were living under just about every areole! They sucked one completely dry and almost killed the second. As it stands, I cut the top off the survivor (just in case), sprayed it really good every other day and did the same to the bottom half. The top half has turned green again and is growing and the bottom half is still a bit yellow, but is turning greener. When in doubt... look harder!

There is definitely fungus on the leaf, but it might be opportunistic. In other words, something else might have damaged the leaf and the fungus then moved it. In any case, remove every leaf that shows signs of fungus, tie then up in a bag and burn or discard well away from the property. How widespread is the problem? Another pic would be useful. Dennis

Thanks Joan_m ,as a matter of fact I brought some of the hips home to disect and investigate...just a compulsion I have...lol.Well anyway there is no odor to them what so ever and I do not remember any smell coming from the bush or foliage that I brought home.I didnt notice any of the bristly thorns just nice sized well spaced ones,so maybe your first guess is correct.So when I go back to check on it if it is blooming I know that it isnt either of the 2 you mentioned which helps in the process of elimination.:)And then will get a picture of the bloom!And if there is no bloom to take a picture of then I bet you are right on the Dog Rose,I will be dissappointed though,because I was really looking foward to snagging a cutting and enjoying it's fall display year after year!Thanks so much for your input I really appreciate it!:) ~Angie

You can use some regular felt on some things. It has a lot of differnt fairies, which are very pretty. It also has a lot of other dolls. They also have a Harvest Folk group -- shown on a page with fall pumpkin houses(not included in book) parents, boy, girl, mother & baby, older kids. They have a page called the Driftwood Clan -- shows a rustic house (plans not in book) shows all differnt size dolls -- boys, girls, parents, babies, twins, pirate -- 17 dolls on that page. Also has a page of felt pins --all are appliqued & beaded - the shapes are round, oval, hearts, 1 shows a small fairy on a fall leaf -12 in all. Another page has small felt appliqued purses(looks more like wallets_ 8 styles. Another page has felt appliqued checkbook holder and cellphone cover. Another page has felt appliqued Balsam Pillows - 3 designs. Another page has a 3D look felt appliqued picture -- size says 8" x 11" -- has 2 color border - house on hill with tree & leaves, sky -- bottom half is rectangle garden with flowers, boy, girl, dog, bottom has 3 fall leaves.
