Does that plastic paint actually work?
Comments (3)yes, and NO.. :) First, a plug about Mr Clean sponges..I am a HUGE fan of them for outdoor furniture..tho they need to be a bit hardier..they do really work well....however....when plastic is destroyed..it is destroyed...the sponge can't perform magic..only erase dirt. Have you tried Simple Green? The stuff is magic outdoors for outdoor grime. It whitenns and brightens beyond my expectations most of the time. You will notice usually things are cleaner as they dry more so than when you first are scrubbing. It works better as it sits. I use it on lawn furniture...my deck, my picket fence..ect ect. I doesnt seem to hurt my flowers, tho I am always careful to spray them with clear water afterwards just in case. It is biodegradable. It is very very concentrated so use carefully. I also use it in my carpet shampooer as a added plug...cleans like no carpet shampoo I have ever tried. Even tough to get out stains and I have light light creme carpet and four dogs.. :) I never fails me...off my soapbox now..sorry Anyway...back to the plastic paint..I have VERY good results with it on mildly damaged plastic..where the color is dull and a bit damaged but the finish is still intact...and stick with the same color it is...color changes don't fair as well with outdoor weather in my experience. I have a white bench and several plastic white chairs that are prolly nearing more than ten years old maybe..sit out year round. And were last painted four to five years ago and still look great. The downside..it smells like hell... and you will prolly need 2 cans for a decent size chair..it does not go real far. It will also drip quite easy..so go slow and keep the coats light..specially in drip prone places. I like it overall...as long as you stay in the same color...and start with plastic in decent shape...and don't expect miracles just decent results. I prefer Plastkote I think is the name of it...Walmart carries it..Lowes also has a brand I can't recall its name and I thought it peeled quickly..within a year or two. Good Luck and let us know your results and feeling on it. Everyone has diff luck and experience and it is good to know all of it....See MoreHave any of you ever spray painted your plastic garden furniture
Comments (5)Years ago I sprayed faded hunter green resin chairs and a loveseat with Fusion paint. The cost was hard to swallow as it required many, many cans. Did they come out okay, yes. But certainly weren't as new looking as I had hoped. What I have had great results with however is exterior house paint. I have many white resin chairs that are now 22 years old. I clean them well and paint with a brush or foam roller. The exterior house paint repels weather and stains and in the case of the white chairs the gloss white paint I use stays shiny for years. Recently a neighbor stacked up several very badly stained and weather beat resin chairs and a round resin table on the curb destined for the landfill. I hauled them home, rolled and brushed on some Zinser 1,2,3 primer and painted the collection with a smoky olive exterior semi-gloss paint left over from another project. The chairs and table look fabulous and will weather for years before another coat of paint will be necessary. This weekend I am painting several more resin pieces for a friend in Sunflower Yellow, again exterior paint. Try it! I think you'll be pleased. At least 2 coats maybe three may be necessary but it is a great way to extend the life of the chairs, use up leftover paint and save space at the landfill....See MorePlastic patio chairs painted and decoupaged. Comments (3)Thanks, Yugoslava and Funcolors! You've made my day. I hope this inspires others to tackle their old plastic furniture. If you do, please post pictures. Forgot to mention I drilled drainage holes in the seats. I think the newer ones drain better than my old ones did....See MorePlastic Adirondack Chairs - Who has 'em
Comments (18)Snookups, we got them all off of eBay from the same seller, a link to her eBay store is below. They are drop-shipped from the factory. The first order we placed during the winter got here in a week. The two we placed in spring took about 2 weeks (she said the factory gets pretty busy with orders in the spring). The material for the chairs is made of recycled soda bottles and milk jugs, so it's a nice green alternative :-) The hardware is all stainless steel too. Gorilla X, I can certainly understand the price issue. One of the problems we have here are extreme wind conditions with some regularity, even our wrought iron patio set gets displaced sometimes! We had to rule out lighter stuff because of that. Here is a link that might be useful: eBay polywood...See Moremaddiemom6
