Creative Home Arts Club

Does anybody knows about the Creative Home Arts Club, They send me a letter offering a lot of stuff for only one dollar per month, I am not really a craft person I just get stuff from the dumpster and curb and make them beautiful and usable again with glue, paint and tools.

Don't bother. I got sucked in, and their stuff is pure junk. The magazine is 75% ads, and what "projects" there are look like they were designed by a kindergarten class. There are no "creative home arts" visible anywhere IMO.

You are already being creative by repurposing found objects, and find much more satisfaction than you would by assembling purchased kits into something not useful at all.

Sorry to sound so harsh, but I am still PO'd at the chasm between hype and reality.

I have to agree with Nancy. I was dismally disappointed by them too. You are able to get "free" craft kits but, I can't remember exactly why, but they weren't really free. It might have been, the kit is free but shipping and handling is $50 or you became a member with an obligation to purchase future kits or supplies. You'd get more inspiration on this forum or others than you'd get in their magazine. Plus you get lots of mail from them trying to get you to become a "lifetime member." I think it was something ridiculously high like $400 but you got a bunch of free things that would probably equal about $100. Definitely not worth it in my opinion.

Sure kp, can post some info for you....This is the fourth year for our newly formed garden club. We have one fundraiser per year and it is the Garden Art Fair & Bake Sale. We have about 30 members. All are asked (not required) to make garden art or something related to gardening or baked goods and donate it to the club. We rent a school gym, set up tables, advertise for about a month and then sell everything that was donated. Last year, in about three hours, we brought in $1,300!. We do have unusual house plants and some garden plants, but we try and stay away from too much of that, as we want to be know for our garden art. We also do not wish to run into competition with our garden centers because they usually have their open houses the same weekend. It is a great fundraiser plus it keeps the members busy all year searching for new ideas and creating their art. It is so much fun to see what members come up with. Some of the things we sell: We have totems, silverware windchimes, mosaic work, stepping stones, garden aprons, bird feeders, hypertufa pots & mini gardens, birdhouses, butterfly houses, garden signs, garden baskets, decorated garden chairs, watering cans, garden books, plate flowers, garden crosses, a willow trellis, homemade jams & jellies (red hot pepper jelly, onion jelly, raspberry jam, homemade salsa, and many others. I will take pictures this year and post them if anyone is interested. No, we don't have other vendors, as this is our fundraiser. Past years, we have also hosted workshops every hour, on the hour, but the last few years, they have been less and less. Everyone who comes just wants to buy, so this year we aren't offering anything extra. It is great exposure for our club too. Many people come in and ask questions about gardening. We even pick up new members when they come to visit us. And I think our own members are our best customers! BUT we aren't allowed to buy anything until we open up the doors for the public. Becky

My suggestion for you is not to Open the book at all, not even the packing it comes in. Write in big bold letters, RETURN TO SENDER! I'd also call or write and ask them to stop sending you the books..I found out the hard way about weight watcher books that come from Oxmoor House and are twice the price they are in the book stores. I only buy online from Amazon.com..They beat everybody's prices that I have discovered so far. Delivery is fast too.

You may heard about the National Home Gardening Club Scam but don't have exactly any idea about it. Well, the National Home Gardening Club is a membership that advertises wonderful and great benefits to whoever will join their club whether for online or offline. Among these benefits include a one-year subscriptions on the official magazine of the club that also includes step by step guides for high quality crafts and arts, some surprise free gifts, and last of the benefits is you would be come a product tester.

I have been a member for a number of years. I like the magazine. It is worth the $12. It is not as detailed as some magazines and I can usually get through it quite quickly. An easy, enjoyable read. On the testing side - It makes sense for them to start out sending you small items. They can judge how you do in your evaluation to determine if they want to send more. It would be foolish to send out products with a price tag in the thousands to someone that you don't even know if they will actually respond back or even give a proper evaluation. I did receive a couple of tiny things to test. And I did as I was instructed and wrote what I thought of the products, good and bad. It has probably been over two years now and I have not been invited back to test. It was kind of fun. I don't know if they didn't like my evaluations or my name fell off of their tester list.

Since I discovered the garden forum about two years ago, my changed for the best, I live in a city where expensive cars, nice restaurants and mall shopping are the most important things, I live in a small area that the city purchased few years ago and the minority live, I have to share this with you because I paint and fix my apartment myself, I do my gardening, grow bananas, tomatoes, my children also love to grow their own. as soon they come from school they run to the back yard,People here do not take care their homes and apartments,they don't even have to cook, there is habitat for humanity and the city to do all the work,so everybody believes that I am crazy because whenever a rich person give a resident a good piece of furniture I ask the maintenance guy to open the dumpster for me. The begining of the story is I just signed the lease for my 600sq ft storefront, I have 800 sq ft storage, even a brand-new cash register that somebody did not use for his business fell in my hand, mannequins, racks, displays case when Norstroms and Macys were renovating, one time I have to call a worker at the mall to watch the door of the compactor while I was inside grabbing a tailor manequin I have perfumes, Books, garden, flowers, collectibles, brand-new clothes, shoes and more. There is a very knowledgeble person from the garden forum that I want to thanks, watergal I am running my interior plants service and I am very happy and relaxed, I did my website with the help of my children is angieinteriorplants.com, my store will be angie's The Resale Diva, I just registered the name with the state, I still need more money for the next two month's expense, I also expect to take consigment, I really I have thank you all of you for your proyects, I am learning a lot, by the way I curb-shopped a very old and big mirror, I scraped the gold film in the back, glue pictures of myself, painted the frame and you can see the pictures and the reflection, Four people were bidding on it, starting a 150.00, Maybe I will keep it, I am sorry it is long but this is the begining of my new life and I have to tell, it means a lot to me, finally I will be making money and doing something that I enjoy at the same time.
