Take a Look at My $10 Haul! LOL

Local "junk/antique" shop going out of business and a friend and I went down and looked around. Had two sacks of "precious collectibles" and they cost me $10.00! LOL

The tennis racket "thingie" I'm going to use for another picture frame. (Got that idea out of the first JunkMarket book.)The metal scoop of a thing may hold soap/something in the bathroom. The two rocks are highly polished, have felt on the bottom and are bookends. (Gave a $1.00 for them.) The little brush is gonna be hair for a Drew Carey picture (don't ask!). Then there's a set of four old casters. Gonna use them on an old iron grate for a boot dryer. (Also a JunkBeautiful idea.) Two little printer blocks - my DD's initials, a little turquoise colored pill reminder, two neat drawer pulls, fifty cents each, a little wire basket that I'm gonna put a clear glass in and use as a vase, a campy old picture that used to scare me to death as a child (and still kinda does...LOL) some kind of tong thingies, an old glass and metal tray and two pieces of wood that are gonna become the main part of a homemade quilt rack.

You like? LOL

Right on Gloria, it was Grant Park. In fact, I think you might have been the one to tell me about that place last year. We went there for the corn boil last September and really liked the place. Now my poor plants have to deal with these cold temps. I'm keeping them in the garage for now. blacky1, you can overwinter your hostas in pots. I put mine in our unheated shed after they have gone dormant outside. No need to water them overwinter. In the spring when they start to emerge bring them outside and give 'em a drink. I know some on this forum say they even leave the pots outside, just be sure to either cover them or tip the pots on their side so they get too much moisture in them, otherwise they could rot. I overwintered about 10 of them and all have done good, except Tattoo and Great Expectations are no shows yet, but it is still early....and COLD! Janet

That is a fairly common Hosta also; watch craigslist or look around and I bet you will find more. Once in a while I find a huge mature hosta, normally in one of the common ones like that one that someone just doesn't want, I usually pay $5 or $10 at the most for a large common hosta. That one (Undulata Albomarginata) grows pretty fast also. I have a hosta, I'm pretty sure it is Undulata Albomarginata sitting in a neglected area back by my rabbits, only half buried, and I swear it about doubled in size sine last summer. If they look too crappy, you can always cut them down and wait till next year. I'd wait till later in the summer though before you chop them, they do need to store up some energy. I mowed over about 30 hosta last year some time in August because I didn't like the weeds and grass growing around them and was too lazy to do anything else. They came back just fine this year. Also; try other varieties, some are much more pest resistant than others. Jamie

Now I would never?(almost never) put a palms needs ahead of a "humans" but......trishmick, it sounds like the "safest" and of course "healthest" room in the house for your beloved three year old would be the north? facing room I am certainly not an expert on childrin, (who is?)- but I feel my knowledge of palms makes up for this, I,m pretty sure they don,t require sun?So how about a simple swap,kid for palms...um..I mean swap their rooms,If its already decorated for children(kids room) may I suggest simply planting palm seeds,does this help?

The tongs are for firewood. To move a log once it's in the firebox and is burning. Very handy if you have a fireplace.

That "Guardian Angel" picture hung in my first grade classroom many years ago. Only it was slightly different. Definetly NOT CREEPY! LOL!

Scrappyjack, the reason that I was scared of the picture was the fear of the broken wooden bridge over the water. Instead of feeling that the angel was a protector, I felt like she was "hurrying" them across! LOL I taught third grade 11 years and gifted and talented kids 17 years.

Have decided what to do with the two pieces of wood with the "curves" in them. They're going to be the two main pieces of a quilt rack. Gonna paint them shabby chic white (of course) and then use a round dowel/broom handle, etc. for the pole to hang the quilt on.
