help with resin bar top??

My husband and I are turning an old entertainment center into a bar. He wants to put his collection of squadron patches and stickers on the top and do a clear coating over it. Something like decoupage, but the patches are so thick. Would anyone have any ideas on how to do this? What material to use? We have a Michaels, home depot and lowes. That's about it as far as supply places go.

Use the pour-on Envirotex Lite. It's what they use on the tabletops with all the stuff under it. The biggest problem you will have is getting any bubbles out, a hairdryer set on low speed/high heat should work or a small torch of some sort. Do it in a dust-free area and mix, mix, mix the solutions extra well. I've done a lot of small things, but never anything as large as what you will be doing. You may want to do a small plaque or ?? first, just to experiment with the product before tackling the bar.

Use the 40% off coupon at Michaels because the stuff isn't cheap. Not sure how many you will need, the box will have a sq. footage listed on it.

Is there a place online to get the michaels 40% off....or do you just have to wait for one in the paper. I don't think our paper has them very often.

Update............ a very insignificant $150.00 and 4 leisurely paced hours of my time..... The idiom "Nothing ventured nothing gained" held true in regards to my situation...a very special thanks to a former Kinetic tech and his single email sharing exactly how easy and undaunting the process really is.... The re-bed process was a piece of cake, the use of 3 very common hand tools, my pocket knife and wet dry vac.... My tanks are buried, it was easier to suck out crud than to uproot the tanks.....If your tanks are not buried your DIY project will be quicker and easier!!!!! Quite easy, so easy a cave man could do it!!!!! Seriously, anyone that possess a modicum of common sense and understands lefty loosey righty tighty can tackle this project!!!!! turn system to bypass- vent pressure- separate tanks via manifold piping- unscrew control valve on one tank unscrew top on second tank remove old distributor tubes turn wet vac on-suck-rinse &repeat til tanks are clean- install new distributor tubes- add correct amount of new resin- mate new distributor tube to control valve screw control valve on repeat required steps for second tank... reconnect tanks together turn bypass off and Voila you have it!!!!!!!!!!!!!! These are the major steps required to complete the entire process....... I now have a correctly functioning Kinetico K 60 system that will in all likelihood last another 20 plus years.....and I won't be disappointed if for some strange unexpected reason it only lasts 5 years.......Just Sayin

In addition to my earlier comment. It's funny how you can have an image in your head and it turns out to be different. The ¾ part I was describing is actually when I turned around from my kitchen island towards the stove. There is approx. a large meter between the two. When I actually light the stove, I look over the bar and it's not in the way. Only if I hang a tea towel over the top bar, it can get in the way, but that is why I hang it over the lower bars. Also if you look at pictures of lacanches many other lacanche owners do the same.

Hopefully someone will have a tried and true method to share .... I’m just kind of thinking out loud here — I wonder about paint thinner or other similar solvent to get it cleaned off. (Testing it on a very small area to see, of course.) And then using a good spray polyurethane after. It’s such a great piece! Good luck!

Thanks for all of the suggestions! Acrylic is an interesting idea, though I'd like the table to tie in with the rest of my wood patio furniture and was hoping to repurpose what I've already got on hand--CDX plywood (table base), birch slats (top detail), marine grade epoxy--rather than spend money on new materials. The input is much appreciated, lots of good stuff to consider!

You can only get the coupon in the paper ad. I think they have stopped the weekly coupon, it seems to me that there is one in their ad every other week. Good luck!

You could also place the patches on the table top and lay glass over that.

lol, sweets, it's amazing how those simple things just pass you by. We had the patches all laid out and 20 year old daughter came it, so we asked her what she thought. She said, cool, so you gonna get a piece of glass to lay on top? rusty and I just kind of looked at each other and went DUH.... we decided that yes, that would work, however, we did the envirotec, and it turned out wonderful. We do need to do another pour though, as those patches are thick!!! I'm hoping there will be a coupon in tomorrow's paper. And we tackled the big job without practice, "patting myself on the back for being brave".

if you have an AC Moore store around, Michael's will accept their coupons and vice versa
