Thanks, mongo (and budge--I get your point about sealant/caulk, and now I think I'm addressing the point below)...along with the sink came some greyish putty already in a roll/tape form, so we put that underneath when we set it. The sink/cutout intersection should be waterproof because of that, and the sink has support at all points where it touches the counter, but the shape of it is such that there is a few-inches-wide rim all around between the edge and the cutout, and that is where the slightly rolled edges are. I guess this is primarily cosmetic, now that I think about it. So that said, do I even need to caulk around it, since we've puttied (is that a word?) underneath it? Hmmm...

SmartDesignGirl, Other than a very few colors (white, almond, clear, gray, black), I have not seen any 100% silicone caulk in the stores, and no sanded at all. Home Depot has none stocked, Lowes has none stocked, two local tile shops have none in any color (just the siliconized latex that matches their grouts). Thanks for pointing out that silicone will not stick to old (cured) silicone.

I agree with Handymac. The oak may be reusable ot it may not. A lot of it also depends on the care used when removing the unit. Of coarse realize that will take extra time to salvage the material for re-use and time is money. It may be more economical to use new lumber, however at todays retail prices for oak that may be questionable. So that is your call to make. As for the base boards being very difficult to replace, are you asking them to replace the present ones with exactly the same style as you have now? If so, then that is probably a true statement as most lumberyards only stock a couple of different moldings in the 3 to 4 inch height, so you would have to "special order" the ones to match what you presently have. However if you can use a base with a little different style then you can save $$$. Go down to your local supplier and check them out prior to making any decisions. You could even take the Handyman along. This way he can explain his intentions better. Also you may want to take a couple pieces home to see how they will look prior to purchasing a bunch of something you hate later. Personally, if he is a good handyman he should have no problem with helping you make some of these decisions and will offer some advice of which may save you much dinero on your shopping trip. You should definitely remove the old caulk regardless of what new caulk you use. I'd go with a silicone caulk. If you need more colors, Laticrete offers about 20 colors to match their grouts. The stuff isn't cheap though.
