Sturdy Cardboard Boxes

I have several strong boxes. They originally held greeting cards from Costco. I would like to know if I can paint them rather than recover with fabric? Or what else can I do to change their appearance.

Agnes, you might want to spray them with a sealer prior to painting, sometimes the acrylic paint will bleed through the top layer of paper on the box.

I've seen some covered with pretty contact paper.

I've painted those and mens shoe boxes and when wet they tend to seem warped, however when they dry they've been fine. You can also cover them with strips of masking tape, then go over it with liquid shoe polish. Of course there's also decoupage, contact paper, wall paper etc. Kathi
