Made a 'Haul'

Friend of my DS and DIL's is tearing down a house and has opened it up to "takers". They (my kids) got two old doors from it that they plan on using on their bedroom and bathroom.

DH and I went over yesterday afternoon and I got three small old windows. Friend is gonna use the 2 over 2 one to do a "Four Seasons" stained glass thingie in.

I also got two old wrought iron porch posts. Probably gonna use as a trellis for some kind of rose (?)

Good deal! I love things like that. The wrougt iron should make a very nice trellis!

You need the coat to go check out your garden or see what is buried under snow at least or shovel it, can't work out if you are cold! I think the cat is a hoot!! I'd smile every time I went by it! The shovel & rooster plaques are really neat too. Great haul & wonderful prices! Jan

I am pretty determined at loosening the roots so I can spread them out. You will break some no matter how careful you are. Any broken, moldy or torn roots should be trimmed off. I don't want root area being very clumpy when I plant them. Some shrubs just have no length in roots, but I still try to make the roots go out sideways not down, as I fill in the dirt around the plants.

I have sugar snap peas and fava beans up a couple of inches - planted maybe 3 weeks ago. Spinach, broccoli raab, chinese kale, radishes, and arugula well up. Somehow chervil wintered over. I will plant beans once it warms up again- already planted beets and chard and kohlrabi. I bought 2 heirloom gallon tomato plants at the Friends Plant Sale - any experience with these big plants really producing fruit early? Happy gardening!

Thanks for the ideas, keep em coming. My kids each got some for their rooms. Dh got one for all that change he empties every night. I am using some in my craft room for, my jewelry making supplies. I still have a bunch out there, but they seem to be very useful and so decorative and pretty.

I drove past where a house used to be today that I spent a lot of time in as a teenager. My friend Marci lived there and I spent many nights there...and days...lol...Such good memories.

I used to run into her Mother at the store every now and then...but haven't seen her in a few years...I'm hoping she is in an apartment...but I don't know if she is still living or not...

Made me feel sad...I sure wish I would have known when it went down...I would have ask for parts of it.
