Thank you all for posting this question and answering it - I have the same question :) So, can I just use a "kitchen" cabinet pull for a handle - I am thinking of using the one in my link - as I am looking for a handle with clean contemporary lines and I too don't think I want to use the traditional type of pocket door finger pull and have been wondering if it is possible to install a cabinet pull vertically on the door (like you would on a upper kitchen cabinet) instead. If you think it would work, what size pull do you think is the best - 8" maybe??? We do not need the door to go all the way into it's "pocket" either and they do not need to lock. I guess I am concerned that cabinet hardware would not be strong enough to use. LWO, OMG that other thread! Ugly. I guess it's the same as with clothes. I'm a size 4 petite and pay the same amount as larger sizes using more fabric. Sometimes I pay more. Whatever. I can see now that counter-depth is too $$$ and wouldn't have the necessary clearance in my space. I am glad I discovered I have a 22 cu.ft. currently and I don't need or want anything larger. herbflavor, my house is 1250 sq. ft., not a condo or townhouse or plans to put it on the market. In my area fridges usually don't stay behind and I don't know the reasoning behind that. I don't think 22 c.f. is excessive for a single person. I don't have wine fridges or anything extra. All my cooling and freezing is done in one spot.

Agree with Beverly to pick door based on the architecture of your house. Re door hardware------dont buy anything until you have actually felt it in your own hand. Many lever type handles are too thin and feel cheap, or arent shaped correctly and feel awkward in your hand. A really nice handle, whether a lever type or doorknob, will feel great and be easy to use. We have seven exterior doors and have replaced the hardware on six and i can honestly say it is a pleasure to open and close those doors with a solid, well designed and substantial handle. We left the front door alone because the doorknob is integrated into a larger brass plate, very pricey (here from previous owner) and looks fantastic when the brass is polished, but it does not feel as satisfying as opening the other doors, so its not just about money.

I am dealing with tile size and proportion with my small fireplace now. I would strongly suggest mocking both sizes up in person. I predict the answer will be clear to you immediately if you do that. Tile that is too big for a small space can look really weird because only a few tiles cover the whole space. There isn't enough tile repetition for it to look right. You could continue your counter top material up just behind the sink to take care of the window issue. Like this:
