Another Old Bottle Project-Fairy Bottle

Check these out, my granddaughter and I made them today using some die-cuts bought from Michael's, yard sale bottles, wire,beads,sequins, glitter, sparkly fillers, and heart charms. My sister bought the colored bottles for me at a yard sale. I'm going to try others with larger jars, and some old medicine bottles.

Kudz, I sent you an email... got a question... What kind of paper do you use to print your pictures that you use in your beautiful creations??? I have saved some images from the net and want to print them but I'm not sure about what kind of paper. Also will the ink smear if you use something like modge podge??

Good Morning Bright! and thanks for the wonderful compliments! I'm sorry, I haven't been reading my mail, and my mail box is full, so I didn't get it. But, I print images out on cardstock, or plain old white paper, sometimes tracing paper, it looks so unique like that, wings especially. Yes, the ink will smear, I don't know how to make better quality prints. Oh, sometimes I print on photo paper,too,and vellum because I bought a stack at a yard sale for a dime. but I try to get the mod podge on it quickly with as few strokes as possible. Once you get the first coat on it's not bad. I set my printer to plain paper. If I cover it in mod podge I add glitter last otherwise it dulls it...

Thanks everyone!! The bottle bug eyes are large flat glass beads with round beads glued to them. The wings were each metal leaves attached to a 99cent candle holder at a local closeout store. They were flimsily attached with a tack weld so i figured they'd be easy to pull off and repurpose as wings.

OMG, I missed this also! I saw a couple of *beginnings* in an email but these are great, absolutely, you better keep an eye on that combed bird when I leave next time, lol 8^) I don't have any bottles, the only thing I ever did with them was border the big beds at the old place I asked my neighbor to start saving his beer bottles and in less than 2 months I had more than I needed, hehehe They weren't small beds either Pam I love your tree, where are these beautiful blue bottles coming from, I saw the bud platinum, where else?

Hi. All the methods you have posted here work to some extent, depending on the type of dirt, soiling or hazing, and the bottle itself. Mineral hazing or mineral etching can never be removed unless you use drastic measures (ie) heating the glass to just below the melting point. This in itself causes many other problems, warping etc. I have over 1000 bottles from the 1600s to the 1950s. I do not clean them past just getting the dirt & grime off. Some embossed bottles that are clear I clean a bit more so they can be read. But other than that. Enjoy your bottle with it's patina. That is just one part of it that makes it old and desirable to most collectors

thank you all. Minnie I checked them all out, I can't believe after these few years I still don't check the gallery side. They're beautiful, I have some like the ones on the shelf, I always put them in a pot of flowers. Some are missing arms, or part of their wings, but still adorable :D I don't know what it is about mermaids and fairies, but I love them! Oddie, I had the most fun making fairy jars with my grandkids pics. I used photoshop, but you could just print out some fairy wings you'll find online somewhere, or out of a magazine, or draw some and color them. Print out the photo of the child, use their body, or put their head on another body. Such fun! They'll be tickled,too. Add a crown or newspaper hat, or party hat.
