Should I take windows offered? Ideas?

I have an opportunity to take some windows from a local business. They're wood-framed and they're probably about 42" wide and 50" long. No caming in them. They're the old glass, but to me they didn't look any different from today's glass. Of course, they were covered in dust and in a dark basement when we looked at them in a stack. He originally wanted $100 for about 20 of them, there are some smaller sizes too. I didn't have that money at the time, especially since I wasn't sure what I'd do with them, but now he's offering them to me free! Should I take them?

Any ideas for these windows other than making tables out of them or placing them in a wall (I've done both)?

If I don't take them, they're placing them on Freecycle, but they were giving me first choice. I hate to let them go even though I have no place to store them without them being in my way, but if I can come up with some good ideas, maybe I will take them. I'd love to make a greenhouse out of them.

Wish I had a pic to post. Thanks everyone!!
Alicia

Wow, robolady. You've done some really unique and great things with the "trash" you've found. Thanks for the ideas and the link to your page. There's so much information there!!! I love it. :)

Yes Alicia, take the windows. There are several posts on the Garden Junk, Crafts & Decorations and Trash to Treasure forums on what folks have done with old windows. At the top of the page in those forums, do a search for "windows" - several posts will come up and you can pics. One gal did a beautiful design using half marbles, another gal pictures of flowers/birds, etc. on them. Someone with a lot of land attached a bunch of windows together in a row, different angles of the windows and they sit there. I believe she was going to plant flowers along them. I have seen where a flower box planter is attached to the bottom of the window and hung with cascading plants. And yes, there have been greenhouses made out of them. I've attached a pic of an antique window I painted.

Thanks, Sal. Nice painting!! I'm not as crafty, but I am taking the windows. I don't know where I'm storing them all because there are about 20 of them. I'll post a pic once I get them. Maybe I can add caming to them for an added touch so I can do something like you did. They sell painting kits I think. :)

Now I'm off to search the different forums you mentioned.
