| We found a vintage Perfection kerosene heater in the attic of the house we are renovating. It is about 2 feet tall and is kind of charming looking. I was thinking of painting it black and using it on the front porch to hold a candle inside and maybe a plant on top or adding a top and making it into a small side table. The thing is pretty surface rusted. Any suggestions on how to get the rust off...at least to the point of accepting paint? I'm not looking for a showroom finish, just something acceptable as a conversation piece. Thanks!!

| Have you tried a wire brush? You can also sand it. And then I would maybe do a primier like Rustoleum or something to prevent further rusting and paint over that. It really shouldn't take too much more work. I'm so jealous because I have wanted something like that. I just don't seem to want to pay what people want for them, though! LOL |

| Thanks for the advice! I'm going to try to tackle this project next weekend. I should be able to salvage the pewter-y looking nameplates which will look nice against black paint, I think. I did see some similar heaters on ebay for around $35...they were in primo condition though. I'm always on the prowl for junk especially the 'free' kind. Take care! |
