Generally people got confused with the tiles. Also the price varies a lot. If you think it is a quality ones, then go ahead.

That was the house we had in Houston TX. Now we are in the Dallas Area. That was our only major mosaic project. The front porch was also done. We did not know what we were doing. I took a hammer and tried to soften all of the sharp edges before the mosaic part began. Major job but I understand there are more safisticated ways of doing it now. Ha At our house here I have a bunch of scrap tile that I got from Freecycle.com I am probably going to do the same thing for the back porch. I have never done a patterned mosaic picture before so I'm not quite brave about trying that. But this was just an example of what busted up tile would look like. Susie

Yes, I have always just eaten the cost and it is worth it, compared to the alternative of not enough tile. When I remodeled the master bath in my last house, I used 24x24 porcelain in the shower. Had some issues with one spot with an odd cut around the niche and it caused 2 tiles to break when they tried to install them, so we were short a tile to finish the job. There were no more boxes to be found anywhere and this was purchased through Walker Zanger and not a big box store. Walker Zanger finally found 2 tiles in a warehouse across the country and shipped them to me. Of course they were a different lot so the color was slightly off, but luckily on an inside shower wall and not visible unless you were taking a shower. Another example! The first house we bought had a marble surround around the tub. The faucets on the tub deck were rusted up and needed to be changed. the only way to get to the valves was to break a couple of tiles on the front of the tub. No extras to be found anywhere in the house. I spent days going to every tile store within a 50 mile radius trying to match a 14 year old marble tile. It would have been so much better if the previous owners had bought a few extra boxes! I finally found a tile that was obviously different when you looked at those 4 replaced tiles, but close enough to live with. Looks like you are in an apartment, so storage might be at a premium. I have always kept the leftover tile boxes and a few larger pieces for any potential repairs, but it has been in houses with storage space.

Pink would not be my choice but the FP looks fine to me if the pink works for you. I think the FP is nice but I like MCM FPs which really is what you have and I would just ang a large piece of art on the entry side and maybe a bench underneath . If tiling is your choice do not use those small tiles go 12 x24 for sure and realize you will no longer have the indent in the LR one so more art there too and maybe there a nice thick natural wood mantel that spans the whole width
